While I like that R & B singer Amerie’s new label home, Def Jam, seems to at least be trying to properly release her forthcoming album In Love & War, there’s something about the video for the banging “Heard ‘Em All” that makes me wonder just how hard she’s going to be pushed as Rihanna Mach II. The video’s directed by Anthony Mandler, who also was behind the clips for “Disturbia” and “Run This Town,” and “Heard” has a similarly post-apocalyptic feel, only with some added plot about her being “difficult.” Love, love, love the ferocity of the song, though—especially that bit about having a Sean Kingston feature forced upon her! Clip after the jump.

Yeah my first thought was that a “disturbia” theme did not fit this song AT ALL. But then the idea started to grow on me. I feel like musically, the song is such a mash-up (funk, tribal drums, surf rock) that adding a post-apocalypse/horror movie vibe doesn’t mess with it much.
Also, I love the lady gaga lookalikes she is dancing with around the 2:20 mark!
What is the Sean Kingston reference I’m missing?
@chachwitablog: “You Asked Me To Let You Explain, I Done That / Same Talk, Same Game, Same Thang, I Done That / I Need A Kingston Feature / That’s Who Never Run When The Dance Floor Heat Up”
it’s delivered sorta-sardonically. And Kingston is on Epic, so…
umm I really don’t see Disturbia! I mean both videos have the same director Anthony Mandler so both video’s are dark and mysterious. Disturbia was more like zombie’s, spyders and creepy crawler feel. Heard’em All is more post-apocalyptic kind of end of the world surviver living out in the middle of the desert.
I love the song and the video is amazing! I just love Amerie her hottest cut on the album to me is HIGHER!
Yeah diggin the Sean Kingston line.
Oh wow, I must have always been hearing something else at that part. That’s amazing. Well done Amerie!
I just pre-ordered this CD on Amazon. I refuse to let another Amerie album go uncelebrated. Surely in this hilariously tepid sales climate we can get our girl a Top 5 debut?
Love Amerie, can’t wait for this album….
This video has revealed to me that I’ve been mispronouncing Amerie’s name for, like, five years. But now that I know how to pronounce it, I can’t remember how I used to pronounce it. I just know it was different.
Anyhoo, enough about my brain. The song is just okay for me. But I’m sure it’ll sound devastating on the dance floor.
