The UK pop trio Sugababes, whose lineup was realigned last week when founding member Keisha Buchanan was swapped out for former UK Eurovision rep Jade Ewen, have rush-reworked their RedOne-produced single “About A Girl.” The techno-leaning, truncheon-like track—which is the second single from their forthcoming American makeover album Sweet 7—had already been released under the Keisha lineup. You know what this means, right? We can all compare Sugababes 3.0 and Sugababes 4.0 directly, thanks to the magic of YouTube! Clips after the jump.

So, now you know. And to be honest? I don’t really care for either version—one commenter on that same DigitalSpy noted that this track really doesn’t even sound like the Sugababes, a thought that I had when I watched the video for their other recent single, the Right Said Fred-biting “Get Sexy”, on Friday morning. But I will say that you can definitely hear the Scotch tape and spit that the Suga-minders slapped on the Jade version of the song in order to get it out to UK radio stations in time for maximum news wave-riding!
In other news, one of those free Tubeloids is reporting that Ne-Yo is “desperate” to work with Keisha, which I guess means that she got his collaborations in the divorce. Here’s hoping she has the last laugh with an album full of not-very-veiled breakup songs that sound better than both singles from Sweet 7!

The Keisha version sounds better from a vocal point of view, but both songs are dreary and soulless and vapid, and nowhere near “Push The Button” status (this song needs a “my sexy ass has got him in a new dimension”-esque lyric, asap). I do not think they are “dead” as a band as others have said, and actually anticipate them to outlive Girls Aloud, but the incarnation as we knew them has died, and that happened when Keisha agreed to this musical direction when they began recording in the first half of the year, not when she was pushed out a week ago, for what that’s worth.
