New-Look Sugababes Need To Sign Some Papers Before They Can Push The Button On Their New Lineup

sugawhaThe Sugababes are still apparently working out all the kinks from their lineup change a few weeks ago that saw original member Keisha Buchanan swapped out for UK Eurovision hopeful Jade Ewen. After canceling a few gigs in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, the group was expected to debut tomorrow at a charity performance in Glasgow. But thanks to some “legal issues” not being resolved in time, the gig’s off. I wonder if there’s haggling over any sort of “don’t slag the band in public if you unexpectedly get kicked out” clause?

With great personal regret, Sugababes will not be able to participate as headline act at this Thursday’s Scottish Royal Variety Performance.

Following the recent and well documented change of line-up to Sugababes, there are a number of legal issues to be finalised by all parties in order that the band can move forward.

Sadly, whilst these negotiations are approaching completion, it will not be possible for the band to finalise its business affairs prior to Thursday’s event.

Heidi, Amelle and Jade wish to extend their most sincere and personal apologies for the inevitable inconvenience and disappointment that this decision will bring to the organisers and producers of the show and, not least of al,l their many Scottish fans who were looking forward to seeing the exciting new line-up’s first live performance.

As a gesture to all those who have been disappointed by this unavoidable decision, Sugababes have agreed to perform a gig at a future date (TBA), the profit of which will be donated towards the Scottish Royal Variety’s chosen charity; the Royal Blind Society.

This charity is particularly close to Jade’s heart for very personal reasons.

Jade commented, “This is such a disappointment to all of us because not only were we looking forward to this being our very first gig together, but my dad happens to be blind and my mum is partially sighted, and I know firsthand the great work the charity does for families like mine. That’s why Heidi, Amelle and I have agreed to put on our own gig to support this massively worthwhile cause. We can’t wait to visit Scotland in the near future!”

“This was indeed an unavoidable decision of a contractual nature but I am delighted to confirm that all other band engagements are due to resume next week when it will be business as usual for Sugababes,” the band’s manager added at the end of the statement. Well, “business as usual” is relative, I think…

  1. I read somewhere that Jade Ewen hasn’t signed her contract yet to become a Sugababe and this is part of the problem (though the tabloids are already reporting bust ups in Sugababes 4.0).

I wonder if this is an internal Universal accountancy argument – the Babes were/are signed to Island Records and Jade was signed to Geffen Records who clearly put a considerable sum into her solo career and probably want departmental budgets adjusted accordingly.

  2. what a mess!
