The Decline And Fall Of A Once-Great Brand, Just In Time For The Holiday Season

51ofzg1bpl_sl500_aa240_Looks like The Onion’s Least Essential Albums list now has a 2009 frontrunner: Katy Perry: MTV Unplugged is coming to this nation’s few remaining record stores and music aisles on Nov. 17—because the Edina Monsoon-channeling singer’s yelp sounds so much “better” without the glops of electronic processing that were added to “I Kissed A Girl,” right? I’m honestly having trouble even imagining what “Hot N Cold” would sound like “unplugged.”

@Chris Molanphy: Well it would at the very least retain its vague lyrical sexism…

You didn’t mention the key info here: she covered the Fountains of Wayne’s “Hackensack” on this! Wait - this is more a “!?!?” kind of news.

I think this is a photoshopped joke, just like those promos on Comedy Central where they pretend they gave that ventriloquist a show.

@Evie: or you mean like the idea of Frank Caliendo having a show? That was fake too, right?

@Chris Molanphy: I’m guessing it would sound like shit. Just like the “plugged” version.

This is seriously giving me the :(’s

I remember when I was like 16, and there was some fuzz about the new season of MTV Unplugged, it featured Hole, Sheryl Crow, The Cranberries, and I’m not sure, but Live?

This is what 16 year olds in 2009 are getting.

@fre2daa: And Erykah Badu! And I think they were all broadcast the same week, right? That was the best week ever.

@bcapirigi: Yeah, totally! Like a new Unplugged from monday to friday. Those were the days!
