The JC Chasez Song That Kris Allen *Really* Needs To Record

Much ado has been made over “Build Some Love,” a song by former ‘NSync member/current dance-based competitive television show JC Chasez that leaked online over the weekend; it’s a pleading piano-heavy ballad that Chasez apparently wrote for the debut effort by American Idol season-eight winner Kris Allen, whose new album, as of now, is still scheduled to drop Nov. 17. This song choice called some consternation among American Idol watchers like my MTV pal Jim Cantiello, who mocked Chasez for his 2004 dud “All Day Long I Think About Sex.” Which is kind of unfair, since his later output was a lot better! How could we forget “Until Yesterday,” the 2006 love-gone-wrong track that topped my singles ballot for that year despite it getting only half-released by Jive:

I mean, ill-advised sex-dream songs from five years ago aside, this track—with its slow build, crazy tale about an illicit affair, and the coda at the end—would be a pretty good fit for Allen, I think, even if it goes against the aw-shucks grain of his “married dude with a six-string” personality. Isn’t being a pop idol all about inhabiting other characters for even a few minutes? And won’t Kris sort of need to make a grand gesture out of the gate, given that the runner-up from this season, Adam Lambert, just got a plum pre-Michael Jackson movie slot for the premiere of his music video? Not to restart all the fan-based rivalries, but really now! [JC-Source.net] Should Kris Allen Record A JC Chasez Song?
