Haven’t done one of these in a while, and I figure the night that I’m about to run out to the R. Kelly show in New York (yessss) is as good a time as any to do so. Also, I am currently in something of a (relative) listening rut, alternating between the Shakira record, my “2009 awesomeness” playlist (now at 32 songs! new additions include Alphabeat and Natalie Imbruglia!), and isolated listens to the new songs/albums that cross my transom. And not much else! So, feel free to plug your favorite music of right now here—there’s no limit on how old or new it is, obviously,

Hopefully my HTML won’t go all to hell:
Calvin Harris - Flashback
Tinchy Stryder - You’re Not Alone
Dizzee Rascal - Holiday
Friendly Fires - Paris (Aeroplane Remix)
Julian Casablancas - 11th Dimension
Roisin Murphy - Modern Timing
All solid jams.
Mario - Before She Said Hi
Omarion - I Get It In (Don’t judge me!)
Janet Jackson - Make Me
Amerie - Pretty Brown (Maura, I assume you’re listening to at least 2 new Amerie songs these days)
Sean Garrett - Smooches
Lots and lots of Q-Tip.
All right, here goes:
Little Boots - “Earthquake” (the video came out today and it made me remember how much I enjoyed the song)
Bat for Lashes - “Pearl’s Dream” - Skream’s Pour Another Glass of Champers remix (I don’t know anything about dubstep and I don’t really feel a pressing need to expand my knowledge of the subject, but putting those dubstep drums and rumbles underneath “Pearl’s Dream”, which I love anyway, was a great idea)
Girls Aloud - Out of Control instrumentals (Amazing; I didn’t really think I wanted to listen to them but then I did and WOW! I have been doubting Xenomania for a while but I think this might have reversed that creeping feeling.)
Annie - “I Don’t Like Your Band” (Awesome awesome awesome. I especially like the chirped “Let me help you!”)
Sugababes - “Surprise” (even 3.0 were so good when they were good. Now this. Frown.)
Röyksopp - This Must Be It - Rex the Dog’s K-DART remix (Rex the Dog remixes are reliably awesome. Rex the Dog remixes of songs with Karin Dreijer-Andersson are even more reliably awesome.)
@NunyaB: Oooh, good call on “Earthquakes,” that was the song I probably played the most during the month of September. Do you have a preference of new ‘Don’t Stop’ versus old ‘Don’t Stop,’ by the way, while I’m passing by?
Listening almost exclusively to my own re-sequence of DON’T STOP (neither of the versions satisfies me; tracklist is at the link below) and The XX. With occasional pit-stops for Kylie, in honor of her awesome NY show last weekend.

@ampersandparade: New, all the way. I’ve even made my peace with “Heaven and Hell”.
@dyfl: “Marie Cherie” is amazing, “Sweet” even more so. I will fight you because you disagree.
But there is no need for excessive argument, for the 2-disc edition has all the tracks on Don’t Stop 1.0 and 2.0 and another new Paul Epworth track. Annie is a kind and benevolent creature, apparently.
@NunyaB: Annie has become my favorite pop star by courtesy of merely actually releasing the things she has recorded. It shouldn’t be such a revolutionary idea in this day and age, but it is. And “Marie Cherie” is excessively great; five glorious minutes of brilliance. It is sort of brooding and bizarre, which according to the Nice To Popstars rules means it’s probably her favorite song on the album.

Also Annie does not get pregnant unless her publicity campaign requires her to do so.
Yes I am looking at you, Sophie. And I suppose at you too, Roisin. You had so better make 2010 worth my while.
I don’t actually dislike any of those songs — except maybe “Heaven And Hell” — and I do kinda “get” “Marie Cherie” (though yes it is TOTES a Be Nice To Popstars song, the kind of song that rule was invented for), but it just feels like a more cohesive album this way. It’s all songs about sass, boys, and music, and the ways in which all three can make you both happy and sad.
This is the first I’m hearing about a two-disc edition!
And uh yeah so to get back on topic, it would seem we are all listening to Annie’s DON’T STOP.
I still hate “The Breakfast Song” and can’t figure out why it was carried over, but I rather like everything else about Don’t Stop 2.0.
New albums from La Roux, Sally Shapiro, KISS, The Big Pink, and Brand New
@NunyaB: The disappointment of being a Sophie Ellis-Bextor fan is palpable. In a perfect world I’d be listing "Sophia Loren" in my awesomeness list for 2009. Alas…
Mew
Brand New
Miranda Lambert
@musicquizking: How are you liking the new Brand New album? It was a grower for me.
Just found a whole bunch of Pavement unreleased/rarities/live tracks that some guy posted online from his harddrive. It’s time to get amped for the tour…next year. Other than that I really like Girls’ album and that new Big Boi song with Gucci Mane.
I’ve been playing the new Miranda Lambert A LOT. Also:
Loney Dear - Dear John (Monday’s show here in Toronto was 90 minutes of swoon-inducing perfection)
BigDif - Hardknock Tapes Vol. 1 (an excellent Swedish hip-hop mixtape from http://www.bigdifmusic.com)
Fred Ventura - Disco Relix Mixtape (tracklisting here: http://www.valeriecollective.com/2009/10/ventura/)
The Urchins remix of SaintSaviour’s “Star Jumps”
A new Sloan track - “Take It For Yourself”
The new Rose Elinor Dougall (ex-Pipette) single “Fallen Over”
But mostly a whole lot of that Miranda Lambert album.
I have been on a mega-Kylie kick lately (tonight I felt a really strong tug towards “Speakerphone” for some reason), probably because I totally missed out on her recent tour.
Also, that “Fireflies” song by Owl City, aka Not-Postal-Service-But-Sounds-Identical has been aural crack to me for the past week or so. I wasn’t even all that in to the original Postal Service, and yet.
Apparently, there’s some new Amerie I should be tracking down. I don’t know why I let myself miss out on that. (Well, I suppose the whole “midterms” and “working while a full-time student” things might explain it.)
I’m not attempting to be as current as usual…
but basically, lots of Madonna, Prince, Florence + the Machine, Imogen Heap and Fall Out Boy, and soon, a lot more Mew and Devin Townsend.
Jemina Pearl’s solo debut kicks major ass. On the other end of the spectrum I’ve been rocking out to Munich Machine, 1978 disco by Moroder.
@ampersandparade: Thanks, I need to get that Calvin Harris album!
my list:
cassius - youth speed trouble cigarettes (don diablo remix)
robin thicke - sex therapy
mariah carey - skydiving (unreleased timbaland collaboration)
peaches - I feel cream
wale - inhibitions
and about 8 tracks from Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel…
the bravery - slow poison
sisters of mercy - some girls wander by mistake
mariah carey - obsessed
the doors - soft parade
electro breaks - vol. 2
jimmy buffett - cheeseburger in paradise
i do like the new shakira track ‘i did it again’ but i’m not sure if its out yet for purchase. might wait for the shewolf lp.
You’ve Got a Friend In Me - Randy Newman
Corrido #1 - Los Lobos
Mike Mills - Air
Lights - Editors
Rock That Body- Black Eyed Peas
El Malo - Willie Colón
All Alone (No One To Be With) - Slick Rick
Sneaky Snake - Tom T. Hall
Forever - Chris Brown (That Damn Office episode…)
Pass the Dutchie - Musical Youth
Tell Me a Story - Iggy Pop
Ozzie Guillen - Serengeti (Not my favorite rhyme, but I love it when he yells “Ozzie Guillen” over and over)
and a bunch of Edith Piaf at work
Mariah Carey’s Memoirs Of An Imperefect Angel . . . i know . . . not everybody’s cup of tea, but it is what it is . . . and I love the album. As I have said before, I’m a big fan but this is her first album since Butterfly that I don’t skip tracks. Love it!
Sort of obsessed with the new leaked Gaga track, “Alejandro.” Very Madonna-y.
Favorite albums of the mo: 5 Years of Hyperdub, The Flaming Lips, Broadcast & The Focus Group, Italoboyz, Linkwood. New singles from Julian Casablancas and LCD Soundsystem. From the new Backstreet Boys album: “Bye Bye Love”.
@brasstax: I was coming back to this thread to post the same thing!
Also, I’ve heard the whole Calvin Harris album and I’m loving it. “The Rain” is one of my favorite songs of the year I think.
Lately, very girly:
Anjulie
Laura Izibor
Bjork
and the Isley Brothers
