creed1Monday on Idolator: “On the comeback trail and underappreciated? Well. Expect a Slate piece on how [Creed has] always been underrated any day now!” Wednesday on Slate: “It’s time to give Scott Stapp’s nu-grunge foursome another listen. Seriously.” I can’t tell if I’m a clairvoyant genius, or if someone in the Slate editorial matrix decided to just take the bait. Either way, I guess it’s officially time to Let The Healing Begin. Get ready for some critical darling to do a drugged-up cover of “Higher” as a blog-baiting MP3! [Slate]

  1. Get ready for some critical darling to do a drugged-up cover of “Higher” as a blog-baiting MP3!

Do not say shit like that! Look what happened the last time! Ugh. No.

  2. @Evie: I just hope it will feature one or more members of Animal Collective, MGMT, and Santo/Santigold.

  3. I liked Creed first two albums, specifically Human Clay. Hell, I even own the third one. But both of those are far from the most embarrassing likes & owns I have on the musical front.

I’m guessing that goes to liking American Head Charge and owning the Crazy/Beautiful soundtrack.

  4. @TheRunningboard7: ooh:

    1. Ten Le Fe – Mellow Man Ace
    2. Who Am I? – Lily Frost
    3. To Be Free – Emilianna Torrini
    4. Wait – Seven Mary Three
    5. Every Time – La Ley
    6. La Reina Del Lugar – Serralde
    7. Shattered – Remy Zero
    8. Boulevard Star – Delinquent Habits (featuring Michelle)
    9. This Is Not My Life – Fastball
    10. Sumpin’ – The Pimps
    11. Alright – Osker
    12. Sleep – The Dandy Warhols
    13. She Gave Me Love – The Getaway People
    14. I Want To Believe You – Lori Carson & Paul Haslinger
    15. Perfect – Maren Ord
    16. Siempre – La Ley

  5. I DID IT FOR THE REMY ZERO! THEY DIDN’T PUT IT ON THE SUICIDE KINGS SOUNDTRACK!!!!

If you need me I’ll be spinnin’ Mellow Man Ace… … …

  6. @TheRunningboard7: Oh dude, you don’t even want to know what soundtrack-skeletons my closet holds.

Meanwhile, Bree Bree on this: What bands inspired you when you were younger?
I used to love Creed, I still do. They were my inspiration to start singing.

  7. @Maura: When I think Crunkcore, I immediately blurt out “My Sacrifice!”

The funniest thing about Creed to me (and this was for my favorite of their albums, mind you) was that during an interview, Mark Tremonti stated something similar to, “Yeah, and then our drummer came in and laid down all of the beats in 2 days!” I’m guessing there was a day and a half of trying to figure out the kick-snare-kick; kick-snare-kick-snare at the beginning of “higher”, and then the actual time it took to play the other songs. Because, as politely as possible, he’s no Brann Dailor.

  8. Slate is just a total self-parody at this point. Their contrarianism is completely reflexive and reading the articles rarely bolsters the claims made in the misleading headline. Thank God for Dahlia Lithwick and the Explainer or that site would be a total disaster.

  9. @Lucas Jensen: You missed the latest article: “Slate: Contratian? Think again.”

  10. This all makes me not feel so bad that I gave up on reading Slate a while ago.
