Danny Gokey’s First Single The Latest Sign That He Wants To Be Your Inspiration

danny-heart-132x120 The first single from American Idol third-place finisher Danny Gokey premiered on a Wisconsin country-music station this morning, and it’s probably not going to come as much of a surprise to people who followed him during his long American Idol journey. The track, “It’s Only,” is an inspirational ditty that’s clearly channeling “Jesus, Take The Wheel,” and his breathy voice is nearly drowned out by a super-mournful slide guitar at various moments. (The phrase Chicken Soup For The Ears bubbled into my brain at more than one point.) I don’t foresee hearing this in my dentist’s office, but I think it’ll perform well thanks to its holiday-season release timing and heart-filled message. [MJ]

    Yeah, it’s typically horrible new country fare, but it’s more in line with what his fans want than what Adam Lambert is going to deliver. The 50 plus homemakers are not going to be happy.

    FUNNY that you 3 GLAMERTS (or 1 or 2) have nothing better to do than to malign another Idol who you couldn’t care less about! Why bother? Nothing better to do?

    LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Danny’s new single! Thankfully, we don’t ALL like the type of music that Lambert will put out – SCREECHY and DISGUSTING!
    Can’t wait for Danny’s CD, and I LOVE his voice – and always have, since the audition – that has never changed! And you know what? You Glamberts think you’re doing Adam a lot of good by knocking his buddies? What a disappointing bunch of fans he has! Very sad!

    @Kent: Hey, I’m not exactly waiting for Adam’s album with baited breath either. That doesn’t change the fact that Danny Gokey is one of the most terrible things to come out of the American Idol stable since William Hung.

    Give me Kris and Allison. I don’t care much about the rest.
