Happy 40th B-Day, Sesame Street!

In honor of Sesame Street’s 40th Anniversary today, here’s the smooth-jazziest rendition of the Sesame Street theme, as sung by Joshua Radin. Can’t you just imagine Oscar the Grouch wearing a beret sipping an espresso while listening to this play in a piano bar in the West Village? Or maybe that’s just us?

Take a jump to check out the PBS show’s top 5 pop-star appearances:

Destiny’s Child

Seriously, “I Got a New Way to Walk” featuring Elmo and the Gang deserves a spot on my iPod.

Backstreet Boys

The best part of this clip is the unfortunately mid-90s groomed facial hair. But also, “One Small Voice” isn’t any better or worse than anything the Backstreet Boys have released, so thumbs up!

John Mayer

How much money would we pay to hear John sing “Your Body is a Wonderland” to Elmo? Infinity dollars. That’s how much.

Chris Brown

Does dancing with cute muppets change your opinion of Chris Brown? No? Okay, moving on.

Michael Jackson

Okay, he doesn’t sing in this clip. But does it matter? It’s MJ in his heyday. Watch it a zillion times and cry for what once was.

  1. can u imagine jon mayor singing to kids on sesame st about how he likes to smoke buddha???? ROFLMAO

  2. No R.E.M., no credibility.

  3. “Seriously, “I Got a New Way to Walk” featuring Elmo and the Gang deserves a spot on my iPod.”

    LOLZ!!!11!!!

When hiring Becky and Robbie, do you think Buzznet was actively looking for the quickest, most efficient way to defile the 2+ years of Maura & co.’s work? I’m beginning to think so.

  4. How convenient; I was just thinking the other day that my bookmarks toolbar was getting a bit crowded.

  5. @ben: “hiring” implies they’re getting paid. So far, that would be a true, true crime.

  6. No Helen Reddy or Johnny Cash or The Pointer Sisters … screw it.

Why am I even typing this?

  7. Idolator’s new target demographic is tweens, self-loathers and people who buy four cd’s a year. Helen Reddy? Are you kidding? Robbie and Becky are doing well to even know Michael Jackson existed prior to “Remember the Time.”

  8. I was working through my grief here, man. Or something.

Shouldn’t we be doing something more proactive thank kvetching?

Then again, if Robbie and Becky are REALLY good at their jobs, maybe they’ll get promoted to working at Stereogum!!!

  9. here’s the smooth-jazziest rendition of the Sesame Street theme

Becky and Robbie : Maura, Jess, Brain etc.::

    Dave Koz : Coltrane

  10. Thanks for finding this Becky! It made my day :)
Now find me “Manamana” as sung by Harry Connick Jr.!

  11. The BSB aren’t even from the mid-90s. I mean, what.

  12. Infinity dollars = hilarious. I demand to see Elmo rolling around in bed like Jennifer Love Hewitt.
