Watch Lady Gaga’s Fashionably Freaky ‘Bad Romance’ Video

badromance
After a one-day delay that sent Lady GaGa fans into a frenzy, the Francis Lawrence-directed “Bad Romance” video is finally up and running! Razor blade sunglasses, a corpse in a burning bed and at least 12 different outfit changes (though, admittedly, we did lose count after a bit)—did anyone expect any less?

If the plot of the vid is lost on you after one viewing—or five, for that matter—the Lady explained a bit of it to MTV: “There’s this one shot in the video where I get kidnapped by supermodels. I’m washing away my sins and they shove vodka down my throat to drug me up before they sell me off to the Russian mafia.”

Ahh. Now it all makes sense. Here’s the clip:

Initial thoughts: Fashion = pain. Lots and lots of weird, strange pain.

I didn’t expect less, but I did expect fewer.

(Sorry, this seemed like the day for that.)

@Evie: In Robbie’s defense, he may not have meant “did you expect any fewer outfits?” In fact, I’m pretty sure that is not what he meant - ignore the parenthetical, because it’s a parenthetical, and you get “Razor blade sunglasses, a corpse in a burning bed and at least 12 different outfit changes —did anyone expect any less?” Robbie could be saying “this video is ridiculous, but did you expect anything less from this crazy bitch?” Note, however, that I had to change the word “any” to “anything” for my example to work.

Whew. Someone had to defend Robbie, on something.

  3. I’m not going to bash Becky and Robbie after only 4 posts, as it takes time for people to find their voice, it’s tough for new people to please an existing audience, we all really loved Maura, etc. However, this is two Lady GaGa posts and one each on Amerie and Britney. I know that this website didn’t come close to focusing exclusively on indie rock, and the acknowledgement of pop music is one of the things I liked about it (not that didn’t skip every single AI post), but if the website is going to be pop only, well, then I’m not the target audience.

@How do I say this…Throwdini!?!: They could at least throw in one New Jack swing post or something about overlooked Athens indie geniuses The Glands, just to satiate us old timers.

@Thierry: That’s a huge leap of faith in presuming Robbie and Becky even know what you’re talking about based on the evidence provided thus far.

Francis Lawrence: “OK, so get this: I was watching this show called Dollhouse…”

@brasstax: That’s also a huge leap of faith in presuming Robbie and Becky are actual human beings - I’ve seen no evidence of this in the first few posts. And if they are, props to Buzznet for replacing Maura with people who seem to have never read Idolator in the first place.

  8. @Thierry: Ha. Yeah, I was just thinking about posting some New Jack Swing videos on my twitter feed, hashtagged #newjacknovember in Maura’s honor. Maybe if work slows down this afternoon.

    BINGO!

This post fails to mention/warn how many times I have to see Lady Gaga’s nipples over the course of it so I don’t approve.

Becky, you are witty and smart. “Great minds talk about ideas, average minds talk about events and simple minds talk about people.” Most of these comments fall into the last category.
