Britney Spears Knows Her Fans Don’t Care About Her Actually Singing Live

Britney’s coming to her own defense, releasing a statement regarding the controversy of her lip-synching during her Australian shows. The question is, did she lip-synch the statement?

Says Britney:

“I hear there is a lot of controversy in the media about my show. Some reporters have said they love it and some don’t. I came to Australia for my fans!”

Short, but sweet. Brevity is the soul of wit, after all (and I’m sure Britney knows that, being a massive scholar of the works of Shakespeare) but I have a sneaking suspicion that Brit’s die-hard fans weren’t the only ones attending her show.

I’ve been to Perth. Gorgeous place, but there’s not a heckuva lot to do on that coast of Australia besides scuba-dive and share a pint with backpackers. I can guarantee you if I lived in the most isolated city in the world and one of the most famous performers in the world came to town, even if I didn’t care for their music, I’d plunk down the cash to see what the fuss is about. I’m guessing those are the kinds of folks were shocked – shocked! – that the Circus tour wasn’t the second coming of Lilith Fair.

Britney’s Lip-synchgate reminds me exactly of the aftermath of Kanye West’s Girl, Interrupted incident at the VMA’s. Why are people so outraged about something that these artists have always done and have never denied doing and will continue to do forever til the end of time? Britney’s never sung live on any tour (well, besides one lil cover of “You Oughtta Know”), and Kanye has barely gone one awards show without throwing some sort of attention-grabbing hissy-fit. And people continue to be outraged.

Oh, how I wish I had the memory of a goldfish like these easily annoyed people.
