Britney’s coming to her own defense, releasing a statement regarding the controversy of her lip-synching during her Australian shows. The question is, did she lip-synch the statement?
“I hear there is a lot of controversy in the media about my show. Some reporters have said they love it and some don’t. I came to Australia for my fans!”
Short, but sweet. Brevity is the soul of wit, after all (and I’m sure Britney knows that, being a massive scholar of the works of Shakespeare) but I have a sneaking suspicion that Brit’s die-hard fans weren’t the only ones attending her show.
I’ve been to Perth. Gorgeous place, but there’s not a heckuva lot to do on that coast of Australia besides scuba-dive and share a pint with backpackers. I can guarantee you if I lived in the most isolated city in the world and one of the most famous performers in the world came to town, even if I didn’t care for their music, I’d plunk down the cash to see what the fuss is about. I’m guessing those are the kinds of folks were shocked – shocked! – that the Circus tour wasn’t the second coming of Lilith Fair.
Britney’s Lip-synchgate reminds me exactly of the aftermath of Kanye West’s Girl, Interrupted incident at the VMA’s. Why are people so outraged about something that these artists have always done and have never denied doing and will continue to do forever til the end of time? Britney’s never sung live on any tour (well, besides one lil cover of “You Oughtta Know”), and Kanye has barely gone one awards show without throwing some sort of attention-grabbing hissy-fit. And people continue to be outraged.
Oh, how I wish I had the memory of a goldfish like these easily annoyed people.

Okay, you’re getting there: expanding out one thought over the span of a couple paragraphs, incorporating personal knowledge about a far away place to lend the story some color. Ahh! But then you get bratty about Kanye at the end and it all just turns into a Myspace status update.
@Becky Bain: “I hate Kanye, he’s a baby. Also, why do people care about lip-synching? Suckers.”
They know the former readers will only be around for a few more days, so they’re clearly demarcating where we may run into them (lady gaga fan sites, american idol tapings, UCB shows, hell) and places we won’t (Perth, English class, non-pop events). Don’t you see, brasstax, this has actually been for our future benefit! (Also, your comments have been amazing this week and the only reason I haven’t completely abandoned the site yet.)
@troybulldogs21: Agreed! Brasstax’s comments (and everyone’s for that matter) is the main reason I’m returning. That and a increasingly futile hope that maybe it was all just a rough start.
@troybulldogs21: Add to the list of places you’re unlikely to find them: gender and post-colonial studies classes (remember that wonderful Rihanna/PMS post?).
Yeah, who would expect the simpletons of Perth to even know what lip-syncing is? That place is boring!
Becky, I thought the article was wonderfully written. I don’t know what the hell is wrong with the people that write these comments though.
Brasstax, I don’t know what you think you’re going to find at the Idolator, it’s a pop-music gossip website. If you don’t want to hear the opinion of the writer, go read the Wall Street Journal or the New York Times (not sure how objective they are either, but whatever.)
Troybulldogs21, Stop acting like the only reason you’re returning to the website is because of the comments…that would probably be one of the more pathetic things I’ve ever heard. You’re a gossip-hound, that’s why you’re here. Stop whining.
Thierry, way to piggyback on troybulldogs21′s post without really adding anything valuable to what’s going on. Nicely done. Seriously.
In summation, if you don’t like it, stop reading it. But you DO like it, so stop pretending that you don’t! Embrace the person you are inside, and stop being so annoying, please.
@umdpanda: Sure thing, person who just signed up this week as a commenter. You have a lot of insight into what makes Idolator Idolator and I should just shut up.
@umdpanda: Seriously, if you don’t think popular music (or pop music, in particular) is deserving of being written about thoughtfully and with some depth, then you should be perfectly happy with the version of Idolator that’s about to befall you.
I had no idea that the amount of time I’ve spent at this website has anything to do with common sense…Let’s call it what it is, shall we? Is this not a pop-music gossip website?
@umdpanda: Is this not a pop-music gossip website?
Not before Tuesday morning it wasn’t.
well, it’s Wednesday evening, what are you still doing here?
and since when was what’s been written here, not thoughtful?
@umdpanda: If you’d ever frequented the site before now, you’d know why some of us are hanging out pie-eyed and hopeful.
@umdpanda: Okay WAHT
hahahaha. the new guard at idolator has planted their first commenter. i love it! is it becky’s mom?
okay, brasstax…enlighten me. What massive transformation has Idolator undergone, that is so amazingly different today than it was yesterday?
@umdpanda: It was actually worse yesterday. But the day before that (and the three+ years before that) it was the only place on teh internets where you could read about Sebadoh alongside Madonna w/o ever feeling once like anyone or any topic wasn’t being taking seriously. Now it’s just OMG LOL POP STARS.
So I pose the question again…why are you still here? If you are unhappy here, then why do you stay? What are you trying to accomplish? Is this your idea of an Idolator Boycott? By bashing the articles, you’re trying to bring about some change? Or you’re just wasting your time, because you have nothing better to do, and are trying to make this sound much bigger than it is, with your delusions of grandeur?
and the last part, albeit long-winded, was a question. I expect an answer, brasstax.
@umdpanda: I’m just gonna let you hang yourself there.
iantenna, actually, no. I’ve never actually registered on a website and posted on the board, but today I was just annoyed by everyone here, so I decided to give it a shot. I could get used to this! (if I didn’t have a job, of course.)
ah, I see…the witty retort falls a bit short. Is that all you’ve got, brasstax? I thought you’re the reason why everyone’s here! You’re comments are so great! That’s all you’ve got? “I’m gonna let you hang yourself there”…Fascinating, you must be a Harvard Law Grad with a response like that.
And on that note, I bid you adieu. Farewell…Parting is such sweet sorrow
@umdpanda: Paul Cox: “nu-Idolator shift is analogous to Dane Cook renaming himself “George Carlin” after George Carlin died.”
@ben: Paul Cox = me. May the circle be unbroken!!!
@ben: HAAA.
@brasstax: Paul Cox = me. May the circle be unbroken!!!
Ha, really? You’ve just earned yourself another twitter follower my friend. Well done. Please don’t spend all your follower points in one place.
Uhhhhhh. Did you seriously use the phrase “Lip-synchgate”?
