@MaryLee: Except if you listen to the song she's calling the girl out for being skanky ("she wears high heels/short skirts") and wondering why he's with her. Quite the opposite of the message in Avril's video.

As for "Teardrops", I also fail to see how she's skanky in that one. Again, she seems resigned that the girl is luckier than her. Longing for someone with a boyfriend or girlfriend is a pretty universal thing for teens. I kinda like how Taylor takes the "it sucks but hey we've all been through it" approach rather than telling them to proactively do something about it as you seem to infer. It's a good message. You should also listen to "Fifteen". It's kind of captures her whole outlook on being a teen and it's very nice and positive.

Avril, however, has pretty questionable morals, true. Don't lump them in together.

@Jersey Joe: If you think that's true, you have no idea what's been happening in country music or, really, pop music as a whole this year. Taylor Swift is arguably the biggest star in music today and it was pretty much a no-brainer that she would take this award.

Whatever your opinion of her music is beside the point. From an objective industry perspective she was gonna win this, Kanye or not.

@Jersey Joe:I agree with you %100 on that statement.

It's funny because while the rest of the world was in shock and awe about kanye's diss, I was at home watching this and thinking "HELL'S YEAH! :D"

I also don't like the idea of her releasing songs like "teardrops on my guitar" and "You belong with me". In my opinion these songs are making it okay for girls to long for a guy even though he does have a girlfriend. I also have the same beef with avril when she released "girlfriend". It's just all wrong and just teaching young girls to be skanky.

They should just rename the genre "Country Pop Music." Im glad they let Taylor perform at the beginning of the show so most of her fans could finish their homework and be in bed at a proper time.

If it wasn't for Kanye West she would not have gotten this award. Actually, what the hell do I know, I've never watched the CMA's. But I suspect that MTV stunt had a huge, HUGE impact on her career.

That being said, she's pretty fucking terrible.

@brasstax:
From what I've seen, nu-Nashville pretty much IS pop now. The assimilation that Garth Brooks started is all but complete, and, for better or worse, the edgy "outlaw" masculinity is gone. On the upside, it has the most positive female role models in the pop sphere.

@propaganda-artist:
Somehow, I think that lack of talent helps Swift's cause. Her material is allright, and she comes off as a lot more wholesome and human than all those auto-tuned tween-bots. You - and your whole family! - can hear her giving a damn.

So this whole thing about Idolator being populated by scripts or bots or whatever (I'm not a techie) was just a joke right? Or wrong?

@brasstax: Oh, yeah. She can't sing worth a lick. ("...worth a lick" seemed like a country-ish turn of phrase).

Uh...at least she sings live? I don't know why, but I always find myself defending her, even before this whole It-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named VMAs Incident.

@propaganda-artist: I don't listen to much nu-Nashville country, tbh. But I do know from looking in on the outside that women kind of own the scene right now (which is refreshing to say the least).

That said, Taylor Swift is a terrible singer. Fair as an actor, but a terrible singer.

I work for ABC, so I watched the entire CMA telecast last night (and got paid for it, suckas), even though I'm not a huge country fan. Most of the night I found myself asking, "Alright. Now who is that again?"

However, I do know enough to note that it is also exciting that Taylor Swift won Entertainer of the Year because she is a woman, not just a young woman. Sure, Carrie won last year, but wasn't she the first female to win since Shania Twain in the mid-90s.

Love her or hate her, you've got to admit if the title is "Entertainer of the Year," she deserved it above the other nominees--except for maybe Sugarland.

Dear god this is just painful to be a part of. Has there even been one "rock" story in the past three days? Isn't Aerosmith breaking up? Didn't Slash say something about Axl?

I am shocked at the swift deterioration of what was once one of the first sites I checked out each day. It is now nothing more than Lady Gaga / American Idol worshiping that I could find on any tween Livejournal page.

Thanks for fucking it all up. And the witless musings of Robbie and Becky isn't going to draw even close to what is being sent out the door with heads shaking.

@drunkwithpower: He's probably here because he cares that the site we've all grown to love over the past 3 years has become virtually unrecognizable in a matter of days.

Look, we all know how this is going to end. The hard-core Idolator 1.0 fans will gradually give up the commenting and leave the site for good. But damn if I don't respect Brasstax for at least putting up a fight, however futile it may be.

It will certainly be interesting what this site looks like in a few months, to say the least.

@Thierry: If you say "arguably", I think you can make whatever ridiculous statement of opinion you'd like. After all, in the same universe where Lady Gaga and David Cook merit multiple daily posts on Idolator, Taylor Lautner might just be the most popular actor in the world.

@brasstax: I'm with you. I've been hanging around (albeit less vocal) shouting my share of obscenities about this tired stuff that I can read about *a.ny.where*. There's a side of me that feels like we should not go quietly into the night. This was a blog that we all enjoyed and cared about reading and I for one would like to feel that it should not be *that* easy to zombie-ize a blog and everyone just slink off to parts unknown because they hate the change. But what do I know, everything is done in pageviews, isn't it?
