Owl City Back At #1

owl-city

Reluctant pop star Adam Young—aka one-man band Owl City—is back at #1 for a second non-consecutive week on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with “Fireflies.” We’re using “reluctant” here because it’s somewhat hard to track down a press shot of this guy where he’s not shoe-gazing or doesn’t have beams of sunlight obscuring his face.

Not that we’re happy to see “Whatcha Say” booted from the top down to #3, because someday the world will come to appreciate the whaaaaa…? that was a minimal Imogen Heap tune filtered through a Jason Derulo pop song.

At any rate, Pop Matters posted a pretty rad interview with Young today, in which the self-proclaimed “shy boy” reveals just how sexy fame truly can be:

Last week, a deranged mob of biker chicks chased me down, sat on me, and told me stories. Some of them were fun but some of them were scary.

Hot. And just think of how often this must have happened to Fergie those 26 weeks the Black Eyed Peas were #1 earlier this year.

I think Owl boy is hiding the “one hit wonder” tat across his forehead.

“One hit wonder”, ha! Fireflies got him noticed but his other songs are even better. They will cement his reputation as a GENIUS.

@raderator: A genius rip-off artist? Maybe. I don’t even like… actually, CAN’T STAND… Postal Service and/or Jimmy Tamborello and/or Ben Gibbard, but it’s a shame this guy copied their act wholesale and gets all the recognition.

@brasstax: I’m not surprised one of them broke out.

I’ve played shows with guys like this and the girls loooooove them.

The aping is pretty crazy though.
