One day after America honored the Twilight soundtrack (led by Paramore’s hit “Decode,” with its autumnal video), the feisty Tennessee pop punk act is back with… an even more autumnal video. The otherworldly clip for the bouncy Brand New Eyes track “Brick By Boring Brick” appeared on the band’s website today, brimming with imagery that comes off as Alice in Wonderland meets Pan’s Labyrinth meets the color goldenrod. The weirdest part of the vid—besides Hayley Williams’ unnaturally natural blonde hair—is the out-of-left-field and slightly traumatizing ending. Here’s the thing I noticed, re: Hayley’s blondness:
She seems “prettied up” (regardless of whether this is in the service of the video’s plot), and no one else from the band is present.
Isn’t this what led No Doubt to the “Don’t Speak” video?
And once again, Becky, you show why you shouldn’t be permitted to discuss music. Yes, the end of the video is twisted, but if you listened to the song, it might make sense. The entire song is about how if you live in a fantasy world without having some sense of reality, your dream world will eventually crush you, and you’ll have nowhere to go in reality. Hence, what happens to the girl in the video.
Amazing what happens when you actually interpret what’s handed to you and don’t just take it face value, huh?
@TJ (formerly VivaLaMainstream): I take it you’re referring to my “out of left field” comment? Neither I nor, I think, many of the people who viewed the clip was expecting what took place at the very end of the video, which is, as you say, pretty twisted. Creepy imagery is one thing; a young child basically being buried alive is pretty shocking to see. Just because it makes sense with the story of the video doesn’t mean it isn’t disturbing or surprising to watch happen. That was my personal reaction while viewing the video.
hayley is not the only one in the video they all are and if you listen to the lyrics the ending makes perfect since and is not really that twisted i think it was an amazing video their best yet the people who do not like it should listen to the lyrics then watch the video again and see what they think
