If nothing else, Adam Lambert has pretty much guaranteed that no one is talking about Kris Allen this week. After his simulated sex extravaganza on ABC’s broadcast of the American Music Awards, the American Idol runner-up has been officially un-invited from a planned appearance on the network’s Good Morning America program tomorrow.
“Given his controversial live performance on the AMAs, we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning,” an ABC spokesperson told Rolling Stone, confirming the cancellation. That move followed reports that the Walt Disney Co.-owned network had received some 1,500 complaints about Glambert’s S&M-lite-themed performance. (Hey, ABC—cowboy up, we get that many every day.)
Meanwhile, in the wee hours after Sunday’s performance, Lambert posted the following to his Twitter: “All hail freedom of expression and artistic integrity.”
The glam bad boy has yet to tweet away on this latest controversy, but will undoubtedly weigh in on the matter when he shows up for a hastily-scheduled appearance on CBS’s Early Show tomorrow morning (he’s also now scheduled to perform on CBS’s Late Show With David Letterman). In the meantime, he told Ryan Seacrest, “It’s too bad, I think there were a lot of fans who were excited to come see me. They probably had a lot of pressure coming at them from certain people who weren’t happy about it. I respect their decision—I don’t necessarily agree with it, but they need to do what they need to do.”

I’d dearly love to know whether his 19E management is in on this “shock rock” routine or rummaging through the closet for the tranquilizer dart gun.
Ah! Let Kris Allen fill in the spot. He should have been the guest in the first place. Not Adam “trash” Lambert.
I’ve read articles about Kris Allen this week and watched Kris perform on Ellen today. He was awesome as usual. Adam is wasted energy!
Goodbye ABC hello CBS! I filed a few complaints with ABC today. I intend to boycott that cowardly station until they put Adam Lambert on. That goes for all of their sponsors too. I just watched Adam’s official video for “For Your Entertainment”, and ADAM IS HOT! I t is a gorgeous video starring a gorgeous man. You can watch it on Adam’s official fan site, or on YouTube. glitter4adam has a good one. I just bought Adam’s CD,and it is spectacular. I’m glad I didn’t let narrow-minded ignorance rob me of a magnificent musical experience.
Nothing against Adam….he’s got incredible vocals but thought he over did it on that AMA performance! freedom is good, but over-the-top is not healthy! I’ll respect him more if he pull off a more Queen performance but he was nowhere near that level…felt like another Britney’s show! Adam can do bette than that.
Kris should have performed at the AMA! His Matchbox20 Bright Lights performances on the Idol Tour showed he is capable of closing an award show with a bang….singing+piano+finishing off with the electric guitar, amazing stuff! That is what I call music!
I think ABC made a huge mistake on this one. I could be wrong, come some epic “shocktastic” stunt on CBS’ Early Show, but I highly doubt he’d do that. ABC just ended up losing viewers and an audience that are pretty vocal (probably more vocal than those who complained about Lambert in the first place), so overall a pretty idiot decision IMO.
@Wicked Glitter – If you’re going to accuse people of being narrow-minded and ignorant, you yourself have to have an open mind to the other side. To a lot of people it wasn’t about the gay kiss (which is what I’m assuming your “ignorant” statement stemmed from), it was about the sexuality of the performance (which includes everything from oral sex simulation to another sex act simulation he did with a girl on the chair, bondage, etc…).
It’s not just about adults being prudes, it’s also about the younger fans who watched the show. Okay Adam doesn’t want to appeal to all the younger fans when he said something like “If you don’t like it, then maybe I’m not for you”. I get that. But considering his platform was American Idol, I’m sure many kids and parents tuned in not expecting all that sex in your face. Just something to think about before you go off accusing everyone of being discriminatory just because they didn’t happen to like what they saw.
@CMAquarii, so I guess it follows that you also want the performance of Janet Jackson who grabbed a dancer’s crotch and her own, Eminem praising rape and a rapist banned too??? You should discuss this too as these happened way before 11 pm when Adam’s portion came on. Did your kids get to watch them too? How do they feel about rape??
EMINEM AND JANET JACKSON NOT AMERICAN IDOL ALUMNI. NEVER CONSIDERED FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT. ZOMBIEBOT NOT CARE ONE WAY OR OTHER AS I HAVE NOT BEEN PROGRAMMED TO FEEL SENTIMENT “OFFENSIVE”.
It does not look good for GMA to take him off of the show. In fact, that was more boneheaded than his actions. He gave the performance on an NBC program. NBC should have had him on so he could be “grilled”. They are
giving CBS the golden goose.
I got distracted before I hit the submit button. Harry Smith just made ABC look
like idiots plus they had “taken aback” but proud Adam’s mom on the show. It was priceless and perfect.
