Susan Boyle Expected At #1 Again, Chris Brown’s Sales Not So Hot

sbcbAfter spending two weeks at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart with I Dreamed A Dream, Susan Boyle is now being projected by the industry publication to stay perched at the top for a third time.

The Scottish hellcat’s debut has already sold 1.23 million copies in only its first 14 days of release, and Billboard says she could move anywhere from 500,000 to 600,000 more by the time next week’s chart is published. In fact, with four sales weeks left in 2009 for shoppers to snatch up Boyle’s set of standards, she just might overtake Grammy nominee Taylor Swift (at 2.53 million with Fearless) and land the year’s best-selling album overall.

Chris Brown, on the other hand, seems to be going toe-to-toe with the second Glee soundtrack. Billboard projects Glee—The Music, Vol. 2 to sell anywhere from 110,000 to 120,000 copies in its first week. Brown’s Graffiti is possibly on track to shift 95,000 (ouch!) to 110,000.

And for those choosing sides, that’s about 70,000 less than Rihanna recently sold during week one with Rated-R.

I’m shocked Chris Brown actually will manage to sell even that modest amount.

His career is done, ain’t it?

  2. BCisME  |   Posted on Dec 10th, 2009

    Definition for hellcat
“- an offensive term for a woman regarded as being quick to lose her temper and likely to be violent.” Duh, what’s up with that?

I suppose it’s less offensive (to me anyway) than “virgin” and “spinster” which, in recent months have been ‘hackneyed to death” in articles about the talented Miss Boyle.

  3. Eilis  |   Posted on Dec 10th, 2009

ive got his new cd !!! try it , its unreal

  4. Kimmi  |   Posted on Dec 10th, 2009

I purchased both Rihanna and Chris Brown CDs. They are both great. Chris CD is about love and lost, Rihannas is very angry and dark.

  5. Ruscha  |   Posted on Dec 10th, 2009

I predict Billboard is wrong. If billboard is right about Chris Brown, then USA sucks. Chris Brown’s album did well in EVERY OTHER COUNTRY. Something is wrong with USA if his album doesn’t sell. If his album doesn’t do well, then I am going back to Brazil…A MUCH EBTTER COUNTRY WHO APPRECIATES TALENTED PEOPLE. Chris Brown is talented. Rihanna is ugly and slutty and non talented. Susan Boyle looks like a dyke and is a waste of space. old hag.

  6. Ranger  |   Posted on Dec 10th, 2009

Ruscha, nobody is saying Chris Brown isn’t talented. It’s just that he’s a disgusting human being, and I think the vast majority of Americans don’t really want to listen to a convicted women beater, regardless of his “skillz”.

You know, O.J. Simpson was a pretty talented football player too.

  7. @Ruscha: So you’re really liking ‘I Dreamed A Dream,’ then?

  8. For an album about “love and lost(sic)”, Chris Brown’s album sure had a lot of ego about it. Was not impressed by any stretch. I haven’t needed any help getting to sleep at night, so I haven’t picked up Susan Boyle’s album yet and probably won’t until someone tells me its worth it.

  9. yankintex  |   Posted on Dec 10th, 2009

Please make comments audition-only once again. These ridiculous posts by semi-literate fans are a total drag.

  10. Nina  |   Posted on Dec 10th, 2009

It’s ashame that an artist like Rihanna who can’t sing, can’t dance, and has no stage prescense what so ever will sell more albums that Chris Brown.

  11. Haters are going to miss out on a great album..I can’t believe how much people are continuing to give CB a hard time. What about the white movie producer that molested a 13 year old girl…What about TI, Gucci, and Lil Wayne…They are all criminals too…But the media is on they nut saks…Shame….Stop being hypocrites…and forgive all..And stop comparing CB to OJ.

  12. Let us wait until his first week is over with, December 15. Yes Rihanna sold 70,000 more, he could too if he sell his for $.99. Let us be fair. He’s number 1 on itunes download in 10 countries. Rihanna was projected to sell over 200,000 and she didn’t, she has slipped in numbers on the charts.
@ Ranger – convicted women beater, he abused ONE WOMAN… I don’t condone abuse but, who are we to pass judgement on anyone…. There are the likes of many celebrities that have done worst then him… Jay-Z in 1999 stabbed a man( physical abuse) received 3 years probation for his offense in 2001, a 30 year old man who almost took someone life. Rihanna stated in a 2007 interview with Complex Magazine that she once hit her brother in the face with a glass bottle during a fight, physical abuse… now these aren’t rumors true facts… yet we never here of these offenses that they committed, oh Mr. Jay-Z settle a lawsuit with the victim, between $500,000 – $1 Million. Now if a 19 year old at the time of his incident made a bad decision, accepted his punishment, didn’t go to court for two years like Mr. Carter, fighting his case, why can’t he be given a second chance… Jay-Z was given one, 19 year old kid, 30 year old man… Please it’s time to move on!

  13. @ Dan

The predicted album sales are normally pretty accurate, and Rihanna was predicted at 160,000 – 180,000 and sold 183,000….

Also the $.99. sales aren’t allowed to be included in total sales as they were on a promotional offer, so dont try using that as an excuse…

In the UK he’s number 6 on Itunes downloads, but midweek charts indicate he wont make it into the top 40 album charts….

Considering you’re such a fan of his, I would have thought you remembered his numerous court appearances in which he eventually plead guilty to assaulting Rihanna, making him a convicted felon…aka ‘convicted woman beater’….

    Dear Susan

Thank you for changing my life and the life of my family i cant stop listening to your cd and cant wait for your next you are an inspiration to us all you have a beautiful soul thank you for such a wonderful gift susan Kathy in Utah USA

  15. Mr Im me  |   Posted on Dec 10th, 2009

wow some really harsh comments left about chris by no means am i supporting his actions against rihanna but an abused woman will always sell records, but a battered man would get mocked to no end it is a constant double standard that males just can’t win

there were eye witnesses that stated that she slapped him around on more than one occasion so take that into account before you make an opinion

  16. Ranger  |   Posted on Dec 10th, 2009

You know what? I’ll entertain the idea that maybe she hit him first…and he hit back. Repeatedly. AND SENT HER TO THE FUCKING HOSPITAL. Did you Chris Brown apologists not see the pictures?

Unreal. If that was your sister, you’d want to go find this guy and beat the living shit out of him But because it’s Chris Brown, he deserves a second chance, simply because of his talent.

Don’t misjudge talent for character. He has a shitload of the former, and none of the latter.

  17. CanadianBill  |   Posted on Dec 11th, 2009

Your use of the term ‘hellcat’ to describe Susan Boyle merely continues the slanted, cruel, very one-sided negative press she’s been receiving for months. Susan Boyle is a phenomenal world wide success IN SPITE OF the press, not because of it. Less than a year ago, Susan lived quietly in total obscurity. Suddenly she was world famous. Who wouldn’t need some time to get used to that?

  18. Louisiana  |   Posted on Dec 11th, 2009

These comments are amazing. I love Chris Brown and think he is talented. And yes, I think Rihanna has no talent regardless of the inccident. He does deserve a second chance. I don’t care what happened or who hit who first. I don’t care if he is Chris Brown my opinion of the situation would not change. People seen to change their opinions based on who is involved in the circumstance. I am 35 married with two daughters. I am realistic. No-I haven’t been hit but I know young love, young passion, and plain old young sex. These young people get into this stuff to soon and that’s that happen here. He’s not a bad person

  19. WackoJacko  |   Posted on Dec 11th, 2009

Louisiana, I hope you are as understanding when one of your girls comes home with a black eye, lovingly handed out by their boyfriend. I can just picture you saying “Now, now honey, that’s what young love is all about! Now call your boyfriend back and say you’re sorry”.

    Sheesh.

  20. Louisiana  |   Posted on Dec 11th, 2009

listen waco! That’s not to say what happen wasn’t wrong but you and no one on this site is GOD so you can’t judge. I’m sure you’re shit stinks to. You get counceling and get to the route of the problem. That’s where the SECOND chance comes in. And you only get to make 1 mistake like that. NOW Do you get it honey?

  21. WackoJacko  |   Posted on Dec 11th, 2009

So you would give the boyfriend a second chance? OVER YOUR OWN DAUGHTER.

    I’m speechless.

  22. WackoJacko  |   Posted on Dec 11th, 2009

Actually, judging by your butchering of the English language, I’m actually not that surprised.

“That’s not to say what happen (happened) wasn’t wrong”
“I’m sure you’re (your) shit stinks to (too)”
“You get counceling (counseling) and get to the route (you mean root, right?) of the problem.”

    God bless America!

  23. Louisiana  |   Posted on Dec 11th, 2009

And just as your name states Waco you can’t read either. My children are able to make smart decisions juging the charcter of a person. They would not allow themseves to be abused verbally, emtionally or any other way-that comes with self esteem. They are strong black girls from a two parent household with loving parents. I will not allow your comments to change how I feel about the Chris Brown situation. I do not believe him to be a bad person and I believe he deserves a second chance. I hope his career does well. I wish him much sucess. Buying the CD today!!

  24. WackoJacko  |   Posted on Dec 11th, 2009

You do realize that as you’re typing your comments, Idolator actually tries to help you by showing your numerous spelling mistakes with a nice red underline, right?

Anyway, on one hand you say “they would not allow themseves to be abused verbally, emtionally or any other way-that comes with self esteem” – which I agree, is great.

But then you say “No-I haven’t been hit but I know young love, young passion, and plain old young sex” and “You get counceling and get to the route of the problem.”

So where do you stand? You’re basically saying that your girls would never get in such a position, but IF they did get hit by their boyfriend, you wouldn’t tell them to ditch him, but to go to counseling together?

Don’t you realize how ludicrous that sounds?

“Mom, John slapped me because he’s jealous that I am friends with other guys…what should I do?”

Correct answer: “I’m calling the cops, and you’re never seeing that bastard again. Nobody hits my daughter!”

Incorrect answer: “Well honey, why don’t we call John and talk it over…maybe he’s been under a lot of stress. You two should really work it out. Are you sure you didn’t do anything to get him angry?”

I hope your opinions change as your girls grow older.

  25. The Lovely BONE  |   Posted on Dec 11th, 2009

Whew. I’m glad I’m not the only one who wanted to hit the triple-X buzzer with that vixen Susan Boyle. I’ll dream HER dream!! TURN THE LIGHTS OFF!

  26. chianne  |   Posted on Dec 11th, 2009

CB’s new album is full of great stuff, to dance to and cry to. People want him to stay away from the woe-is-me thing, but hey – how would YOU feel if half the world thinks you are a scum-bag? He’s in a very tough place – let the boy sing about it. It feels very geniune. And geez he can sing. Love those vocals, both on the slow and on the hot.

Don’t like the stereotyping judgements being passed here. He is not a “convicted woman beater” – he was convicted on an assault charge. There is a difference. Haters: if you spent any time getting a little deeper into who he is (of course you won’t bother), you would find out that he is a good, sweet, straigthforward young man, who made a very bad move but is owning up to it sincerely.

I will continue to support Chris Brown, based on his incredible talent AND yes, based on his character – and based on the fact that its just not right to hate a good person who had one bad a case of loosing his temper.

  27. Ranger  |   Posted on Dec 11th, 2009

Uh oh, looks like Chris’s mom is back on the boards again…

I don’t really care if he’s made the next Sgt. Pepper’s/OK Computer. The guy is scum and I sure as hell am not parting with any of my cash to support him.

Again, if this was NOT Chris Brown, but some nobody that beat up Rihanna/any other woman, would you be as forgiving? Of course not.

I know you have a hard time believing that anybody who gives you so much enjoyment from their music could be such a shit in real life, but unfortunately that’s the way it is.

Chris Brown is still an incredible talent. And Tiger Woods is still an incredible golfer. But I would mistake neither as being “good, sweet, straightforward” men.

  28. The Lovely BONE  |   Posted on Dec 11th, 2009

    @chianne

If “one bad case of loosing [sic] his temper” equals beating and BITING a woman until her screams summon the police, then I’d hate to see what happens when Brown “looses” his temper for the second time.

Everyone has the right to defend whomever they choose, but it’s sickening how you aren’t acknowledging the severity of what Brown did. There is NO WAY that was the only time it ever happened and there is NO JUSTIFICATION for how viciously he attacked Rihanna.

  29. Patricia  |   Posted on Dec 11th, 2009

Well, I’m almost positive it’s because of his current situation. I wonder if people ACTUALLY bought more of Rihanna’s CD because of all that happened to her.

Anyways, I’m so happy that Susan is getting the attention she deserves. I hope this isn’t just a one-cd wonder type thing. It’d be great if she did a jazz album. Not sure if her new album is jazz at all?

I found this short clip of a compilation of Susan on YouTube. Looks like the special is going to be good!

    Here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=893pm89mRmk&feature=related

  30. I do forgive Chris Brown for what he did. We all make mistakes. However, hearing his music is just not enjoyable anymore. Seeing him on interviews and the sound of his voice is just annoying now. Sure he’s talented but I’m sorry it’s just not the same. I would never buy his album. I just don’t want to hear anything more from him. However, I do understand he made a mistake and is trying to get back on track. Maybe waiting a year or two for things to subside would have been a MUCH smarter choice. Its like fresh in our minds. Give us some DAMN TIME! Too soo CB! Too soon!

  31. chianne  |   Posted on Dec 11th, 2009

    @lovely bone
VERY few people are justifying what Chris Brown, and I am NOT one of them. It WAS vicious – he went a little crazy, he really lost it. But how do YOU know so much about their private relationship and how many times he supposedly beat Rihanna. This is dirt that even the gossip blogs haven’t been able to dig up (they seem to talk more about them beating on each other).

Please stop looking for crap to throw at the kid and branding him a scum bag. I don’t think his assault was justified, but I don’t think the branding is justified either. It shouldn’t be He’s Bad-He’s Good — this is a shallow oversimplification of the whole unfortunate thing.

  32. DAVE  |   Posted on Dec 11th, 2009

its about TALENT and MUSIC you fucking IDOTS! who cares what he did!? you dont know wtf went behind those closed doors stop trying to fucking judge this kid. you fucking people arn’t angles i bet most of you have done worse then what he did. al i know is that he is amazingly talented and his album is the best album i have heard in years! fucking america is to invloved with famous peoples real life. are you seriously going to deny someone with a amazing gift because you dont like something he did in his privet life?! you are some sick people GET THE FUCK OVER IT! the kids music is incredable stop wasting money on shit like glee and new moon buy REAL music. you people will bitch and cry later about how theres no real good artist or anything after hes gone. hes TRUE talent. let the kids talent shine. hes sorry for what he did HES A KID! hes not gonna turn 20 and all of a sudden think and act like a 39 year old man. we all make mistakes God. grow the fuck up.

Mom, John slapped me because he’s jealous that I am friends with other guys…what should I do?”

Correct answer: “I’m calling the cops, and you’re never seeing that bastard again. Nobody hits my daughter!”

That’s one way, but I came up in a different era and still feel the same way. If my daughter was slapped by someone the cops wouldn’t be needed.

  37. Ranger  |   Posted on Dec 12th, 2009

Dave: “are you seriously going to deny someone with a amazing gift because you dont like something he did in his privet life?”

When it involves beating and biting a woman and sending her to hospital, the answer is yes.

Hypothetically, what exactly would one of your idols have to do in their personal life for you to finally raise your hands and say “I’m done”? Murder? Child molestation?

Or would none of that matter, simply because “they have a gift”?

  40. Samantha  |   Posted on Dec 12th, 2009

Let’s talk about the double standard ( woman who abuse). How about the Panthers player who wife killed him and tried to claim self defense. The only problem is he was walking in the door when she killed him his key was still in the front door. How about the NFL player who girl friend stabbed him in the neck after the Chris Brown incident because she thought he was cheating. I don’t agree with abuse by a man or a woman. I’m so sick of woman who think they get a free pass when most of them will slap, kick, throw things, and destroy and man property because they’re mad. For the ignorant people on here who was in the car and know exactly what happened in Feb move the hell on. This girl has shown her true colors as well. In my opinion she is talentless that is why I won’t buy her album. Chiris Brown album will do well and his career will be fine. Grow up and move on.

  41. ranger  |   Posted on Dec 12th, 2009

Samantha. isn’t calling other posters who aren’t on Chris Brown’s dick “ignorant” like the pot calling the kettle black?

As you said “who was in the car and know exactly what happened in Feb”. Exactly. We don’t know what happened.

But I’ll tell you this much, if my wife gave me a slap in the car, not only would I slap her back, but I would give her a few punches for good measure. Oh, and to stop the bitch from screaming, I’d bite her a few times. That’s what men do, right?

After all, I only outweigh her by 50 lbs; it’s still a fair fight and after all, she should have know better than to hit me first, right?

    Please not sarcasm.

You people are idiots. Plain and simple.

  42. Chris Brown Made a F*cking Mistake ! what u never make a mistake in your damn Lifes?? no your PERFECT
BETTER THAN HE IS.. U NEVER HIT ANYBODY OR YELLED AT ANYONE ..
HATE ALL YOU WANT TIL YOU DIE AND GO TO F*CKING HELL

GOD LOVES CHRIS AND CHRIS LOVES GOD..

    HE WILL RECOVER BY TIME..
    CHRIS BROWN SUPPORT ….

  44. ranger  |   Posted on Dec 12th, 2009

Team Breezy, no, I am certainly not perfect.

I’ve made my share of mistakes…cheated on a test in high school, smoked some pot, downloaded music illegally, etc.

However, I have yet to check off “Beat a woman so badly she needs to go to a hospital” from my list.

  45. From EOnline  |   Posted on Dec 12th, 2009

Chris Brown is mad. After months spent repenting—including everything from insincere apologies and community labor to that bow tie—he finally released his album Graffiti this week and word got to him that some music retailers aren’t stocking the record. So Breezy did what any calm, emotionally mature person who just learned a lot from a major life event would do.

He threw a big hissy fit on Twitter:

    * “im tired of this s–t. major stores r blackballing my cd. not stockin the shelves and lying to costumers. what the f–k do i gotta do…”
    * “WTF… yeah i said it and i aint retracting s–t”
    * “im not biting my tongue about s–t else… the industry can kiss my ass

We can only assume that some of these stores are not stocking his album because he’s a convicted woman beater (unless anyone has a better guess). Fair enough. That’s their choice. Not everyone has to support the singer just because he told a few talk-show hosts he’s sorry. Plus, his album is still widely available on iTunes and Amazon.

All this little Twitter rant does is make Chris look like a whiny, hotheaded, entitled jerk, which doesn’t exactly match up with the whole sensitive, changed man image he’s been trying to work.

As one Graffiti review says, despite the album’s best attempts, “Chris Brown fails at persuading us that he has changed as a person or learned anything…He may not be a monster, but that’s only because he hasn’t grown into one yet—he mostly just sounds like a big baby.”

And that’s exactly what’s going on here.

  46. jason  |   Posted on Dec 14th, 2009

Chris Brown is gross. How dare he sing about love after what happened to Rihanna. He’s got no shame.

  47. Chay  |   Posted on Dec 14th, 2009

ok but Jay Z can “strong arm a hoe” (I guess that was his terminology right) brag about it on a track…then be 100% behind Rihanna (wtf?) no body wants to talk about that riiiii? oh alright then…all of a sudden she hard and lickin the barrel of guns riiiii? forgettin she got her ass beat…goes on tv right before her album comes out and tells “her story” but then wants to say she doesnt want to be the spokes person for domestic violence? something is just not adding up.
Yes, Chris was wrong yes he should have recieved punishment but I guess we are all forgetting that one sin is not greater than the next so if we can move on from other things why cant we move past this? Seriously….MJ was crucified then when he died everybody wanna be in love with the man again? bs man i tell ya Chris has talent I went to his tour last night and danced around like a little teenie bopper (Im 18 lol still not that old but ya know). I do not support what he did but I can forgive because as a fan he did let me down… WWJD riiight?
(PSA and for all yall checking my spelling or grammar and are feeling the need to comment…DONT. you can kiss my ass –>call that being a baby idc I graduated hs early & got a fullride to college I know how to write correctly)

  49. Chris Brown Crybaby  |   Posted on Dec 14th, 2009

Chris Brown sank his own ship. He could cure cancer but he’ll always be known as the guy who beat up Rhianna.

  50. Nichole  |   Posted on Dec 14th, 2009

I think 100,000 sales in the 1st week is pretty good seeing that not all stores are selling his record and he just got convicted of DV. What’s Rihanna’s excuse? She only sold 183,000 and her image wasn’t tarnished at all. If he can still come out and sell his CD at $14.00 a CD and make 1.4 million in the 1st week that is great. It shows that he may have slow sales this year but by this time next year he will be selling out again.

He made a mistake people. GET OVER IT!! When you STOP MAKING ANY MISTAKES then you can judge him. If not get off it.
