New Missy Elliott Track Featuring—Who Else?—Lil Wayne

Who would have imagined that, by the end of a decade largely defined by Timbaland, his frequent collaborator Missy Elliott would all but disappear? Missy been all but M.I.A. lately: her long-awaited Block Party has been stuck in album purgatory for ages, and one mailed-in performance with the Pussycat Dolls doesn’t a comeback make. But at long last, there’s a genuine sign that she might be preparing to re-surface: check the leaked (and unfinished) track “All 4 U” featuring Lil Wayne. Is it worth it?

With a long instrumental interval at the end, the song is clearly unfinished, and lacks Misdeameanor’s usual bells and whistles (and horse neighs). We sure hope she adds a little extra sugar (and spice) before considering this a finished product, because even with a slurred Weezy verse, this track feels mostly empty and uninspired. Not exactly something worth waiting five years for.

She’s got a few more months to win us over, though—Block Party is now scheduled for an early 2010 release. (But if we’ve learned anything from tracking release dates, however, we’re prepared to be patient when it’s inevitably pushed back.) Here’s hoping she returns to the really weird stuff and gets over her fascination with Pig Latin.
