David Cook Gets Emotional On ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’

Picture 2While certain past American Idol winners are jumping into reality TV in the saddest ways possible, others are still taking (what passes for) the high road. David Cook was on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition last night, helping build a home for the Cowan family. Twelve-year-old Kori Cowan suffers from blood disorder, but still finds time to raise money to battle cancer. David, you may remember, lost his own brother Adam to cancer just a year after winning American Idol, so the cause is extremely personal to him. Break out the Kleenex and check out some clips from the show after the jump.

David Cook gets down to work, helping build the Cowan’s new house and meeting with some young cancer patients.

David and Kori host an auction, with the proceeds going to the fight against cancer.

MJsbigblog has all three parts of the show, including the debut of the new house, as well as some bonus footage. Though we’re dissapointed David didn’t get nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy (or any Grammys for that matter), who needs awards when you’ve got this much heart?

Walla Walla man rescues dog from highway
If it weren't for him, the dog would not have survived. 25-year-old David Cook says he was driving on Highway 12 in Walla Walla when he saw a dog dodging in and out of traffic.  Cook pulled over and tries to stop traffic.  That's when a driver ...
Michigan: Who’s got the edge?
A short time ago, I asked David Wasserman of the Cook Political Report about the GOP candidates’ prospects in Michigan. In 2008, Mitt Romney won by nine points, but lost the more conservative, western area of the state. Wasserman told me ...

When I saw David getting emotional, I started tearing up myself. This is why I love David Cook. He doesn't let fame go to his head– and I'm sorry if I'm being a tad bit cliche here– but if there were more people like him, the whole world would be a better place. Honestly, you just don't meet people like him too often. This episode of EM:HE really just solidified what America already knew, that David is a talented musician with a really big heart.

I am so proud that David represents my home town of Kansas City Missouri. I love KC for lots of things and now I have one more reason to love KC. David has an amazing heart and the thought that he spends a lot of time raising money for cancer research really touches my heart. My mom had cervical cancer when she was younger, my dad found out in July that he has non Hodgkins lymphoma stage 4, my cousin Norman died of brain cancer and my dear favorite nephew found out yesterday (Monday) that he has testicular cancer and he is only 27 years old. The fact that David would take time out of his extremely hectic schedule to raise money for this worthy cause really touches my heart. I also appreciate the fact that he chose to go overseas and perform for our military men and women that are serving their country every day in dangerous situations so that our freedoms can be preserved. I come from a military family and my son (who just got married two weeks ago) is in the Army. This (our military)is very dear to my heart because a very dear friend of my sons who was 19 at the time died from an IED over in Iraq 2006 one month before my son was supposed to leave for basic training. David has a true giver/servants heart and i am really proud of him that he hasn't let fame go to his head and make him heartless.
Also, his voice is amazing. Wow, when he did MUSIC OF THE NIGHT from PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, I was in awe. I wish they would make the movie again starring David! I know that most people preferred other songs that are more famous, but I was a fan from his audition and it just became more so the more America as well as myself got to know him. Thanks David for the memories and for you wonderful voice and your tender heart. I only wish more stars had your heart. SINCERELY, KC CHIEFS GAL
PS: THE FACT THAT HE CHEERS FOR MY TWO FAVORITE TEAMS THE KC CHIEFS AND THE KC ROYALS IS A PLUS ALSO. HA HA
