Poor Boyzone never attained the one-hit wonder success here in the States that rivals Take That did in the ’90s, save for a brief flash in the pan when radio showed minor interest in Notting Hill soundtrack ballad “No Matter What.” Nor did the U.K. show much interest when the Irish boyband attempted a Take That-style comeback two years ago. Unfortunately it was the untimely passing of 33-year-old member Stephen Gately this past October that thrust them back in the spotlight.
Below the jump is the music video for Boyzone’s “Gave It All Away,” the first for the band since Gately’s death. The track was penned by Mika.
Warning: Grab a Kleenex—despite the slightly upbeat/almost reggae-like quality of the ballad, the tearjerker video features Ronan Keating and the rest of the band struggling to write letters to Gately.
“Gave It All Away,” the lead single from Boyzone’s upcoming album Brother, had been recorded some time back, and features Stephen Gately’s vocals.

Amazing Video, the boys really have done Stephen proud. xxx
such an amazing voice and heart breaking video with a beautiful song RIP SG xxx
An amazing song with a beautiful video to compliment it.
Stephen recorded the vocals last summer, a couple of months before his untimely death.
It was a shock for everyone, especially his family, friends and fans when he died of natural causes at such a young age. This is a great token and celebration of his life and I think the Boyz have done a fantastic job of it.
I can't wait to get the album.

I am from the United States, and have been a fan of Boyzone for quite some time. Their single “No Matter What” played here, and it is what drew me to them. I like “Gave it All Away” – it's a completely different sound for them. The video is very emotional, but I think a fitting tribute, with the added laughter and memories of their friend.
I love the video. It is so tastefully done and this song is beautiful. It's a wonderful obituary for their friend. Stephen's vocals are outstanding.
I would also like to congratulate Mika on writing such a wonderful song, which is so appropriate for the boys right now
i love this song so much, steven gately is my favourite male singer and i was defistated when he died, he is gone but i most sertantly will never forget him he had the best voice i had ever herd and it should have stayed that way. xoxo
