Not So “Mr. Brightside”: The Killers Go On Hiatus

145547.killers525After spending 2009 touring relentlessly, battling sex slavery and of course, spreading holiday cheer, The Killers are following former arch-rivals Fall Out Boy into that uncertain shadow world known as “taking a break.” NME reports that the Las Vegas-based band is going on “indefinite hiatus” after their Feb. 21 tour stop in Melbourne, Australia at Good Vibrations music fest.

The Killers have been gigging virtually nonstop since the 2008 release of Day & Age (though they still took the time to create their annual holiday track, which this time took form as “¡Happy Birthday Guadalupe!“). So it’s not a total shock that the band would eventually call for a time-out. Guitarist Dave Keuning told the Australian Associated Press:

“Unless some surprise thing comes up but most likely these are our last shows for a while. We’re having a break. We haven’t had a break in quite a while. It’s just been touring and making records and on and on and on.”

“It’s been like six years just kind of connected together. There hasn’t been much time where we haven’t been either touring or taking time to make another record. It’s like people just expect us to do that non-stop till we die, but we just want a little bit of time off, just to be myself and do what I want to do for a little bit.”

Okay everyone—what should Brandon Flowers and the boys do during their hiatus? Side projects? Spend time with family? Start a synth-funk-rock supergroup? Whatever they choose, they should be proud of all these things that they’ve done. (Sorry, couldn’t help ourselves.)

  1. I am starting to warm up to this non Maura Idolator after a bout of hate with the new changes. This post, is the first one that made me smile and go “me too” and wow she is really “snarky” in a good way. The fact u think the lead singer of the Killers should start a funky synth band means on some level we are musical mates. I was about to delete this site from my favs, but now it stays.

it's sad but they deserved a good rest.

  3. I wasn't a fan of the new Idolator, but its starting to grow on me too.
