Goldfrapp Blast Off To The ’80s With New Single “Rocket”

RocketGoldfrapp’s new song “Rocket” has finally surfaced, and like the Atari-at-the-discotheque art for the single sleeve, the tune itself is full of tubular ’80s radness.

Mute Records promised the duo’s new album Head First would be their “most powerful trip to date, a speedy rush of synth optimism, euphoria, fantasy and romance.” They failed to mention it would also sound like the Pointer Sisters! Head below the jump to hear “Rocket.”

“Oh-oh-oh, I got a rocket, oh-oh-oh, you’re goin’ on it,” sings Alison Goldfrapp in the chorus to “Rocket.” Sexual innuendo and synthesizers—always the perfect pop combo!

Goldfrapp - Rocket

The band have yet to post any new info on “Rocket” on their blog, though Alison wrote the following (in all lower case) in December: “i was told by a duo who make websites that doing band websites are completely pointless these days. apparently no one visits them regularly because you can get so much info from so many other places? what do you reckon?”

We reckon they need to take a spin on Alison’s rocket.

I put on my facebook that if Olivia Newton John's character from Xanadu had ascended to the heavens and had a love child with Zeus, this is the song that child would have grown up to sing. I'm with you Craig.

'sexual innuendo' – are you a complete moron?
if you had freaking listen the rest of the chorus (ohohoh you're never coming back)
and the verses you'd know its a song about dumping someone
sending them into space on a rocket

it's incredible, this will be massive and amazing live

  6. Yes, total moron here! Of course I “listen [sic]” to the verses, but, alas, was so overcome with excitement of a new Goldfrapp tune that, well, my mind just went to the naughty zone.

  8. Well, if it makes you feel a little less bitter to believe that you've enlightened someone, then carry on, oh wise sage. You shouldn't carry so much stress around, though. It'll give you a heart attack.

Delicious, and Holy Shit! This is 80s Awesome! Allison has uncanny high art vision. This is where contemporary art finally has beauty and depth to it. Plus you can understand it! Finally people are seeing the point of the whole image of 80s synth and 8-BIT amazement. Its very Olivia Newton John meets shiny new retro lounge in Low Earth Orbit. It makes me want to dance and run. Only Goldfrapp folks!
