Admittedly, the Runaways biopic hitting theaters this March—ingeniously titled The Runaways—isn’t really revving our motors because it’s got that fangbanger Kristen Stewart’s name on the poster. No, we’re more amped over Dakota Fanning’s turn as the wing-wigged Cherie Currie. Her wardrobe alone from all the promo pics is already worth about half the price of admission.
After the jump, a scene from The Runaways featuring Dakota and Kristen Stewart.
The hair. The ascot. The bottle of Mountain Dew with a straw in it. Entertainment industry, hand Dakota the Osc—well, the Teen Choice Award already!
The Runaways already looks infinitely better than the 2007 Germs flick, What We Do Is Secret (which had a brief appearance by Anna Waronker as Joan Jett). Then again, so does Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, but we haven’t quite made the commitment to see that (yet).

Ridiculous question no?
Kristen has a head nod, and a “do you know any suzie quatro?'
surely you cant tell whos better just from this?
It looks amazing though :)
Dakota had a bit more dialogue but both were awesome — you two have done rock a great service
There's no reason to hate on Kristin Stewart. She was truly wonderful in Adventureland.
Hey Alvin_k, no hating, only celebrating! Adventureland was filmed in my hometown and shot at my old teenage amusement park haunt, Kennywood. You're right, props to KS for that one!
THIS IS TOTALLY NOT FAIR, WHAT DO KRISTEN STEWART HAVE TO DO TO GET WHAT IS DUE TO HER THAT GIRL WORK HER BUTT OFF SHE EVRN CUT HER HAIR OFF LEARN TO USE HER LEFT HAND JUST LIKE JOAN WHAT IS IT BECAUSE SHE NOT BLONDE THAT GIRL WORKS REAL HARD
Not a twilight fan, but thought Kristen was hot in adventureland. This movie is based on Neon Angel, Cherie Currie's autobiography though. So this is Dakota's movie, with Kristen in more of a supporting role. Joan had some jealousy with how much attention Cherie got as the “sexy” member, so expect this movie to really play up this contrast, with Kristen being more of a sidenote character with a less flashy part than Dakota. I'm more interested in the stripping role Kristen plays in her other sundance entry.
and let me just add, Kristen has a solid resume outside of the dumb franchise she currently fronts. To judge her soley on TWilight is unfair, when she's already worked with some of the best already at her young age. She's got Jodie Foster and Robert De Niro and Barry Levinson and SEan Penn singing her praises recently in the NY Times. Take a cue Robbie.
Wow, you don't hold Dakota responsible for Uptown Girls? Dakota is amazing, but she has a number of stinkers on her imdb page too, including NEW MOON. As for being a fangbanger, well, yeah, everyone wants to ride Robert's quidditch stick, can you blame Kristen? I not only blame her, but hold her in higher esteem now for going places that the sparkles don't shine.
The Runaways is based on lead-singer Cherie Currie’s book ‘Neon Angel’ – a reflection of her experiences as a rock star.N both looks good in trailer.
LOL It reminds me of a gif I saw with Robert's picture on it with the following line: “Robert Pattinson: The guy you become when your girl closes her eyes during sex.”
Well… I've never read Currie's autobiography, but I have read The Runaway's script and I recall several reports of Joan Jett having a pretty heavy hand in this film and a presence on the set during filming. There's a good balance between Joan/Kristen and Cherie/Dakota from what I could tell of the version of the script that I read a few months ago, so I wouldn't call either Kristen's or Dakota's roles in this film “sidenote.” Does anyone honestly think Joan would have taken such an interest in a The Runaway's biopic if her role in that band was going take a backseat? It sucks that two talented young women can't work together without the press and fans putting them against each other… give both of them a chance when you watch the film regardless of their prior work (let's face it… both of them have taken on projects that their fans and critics hated). The clip and the trailer are not enough to make a definitive judgment about whether they pull off their respective roles. From what I've seen in press photos and such, they certainly look the part, but I'm not going to praise or slam either of them based on a few bread crumbs. I'm looking forward to seeing this movie as a longtime fan of The Runaways and Joan Jett, and if Dakota and Kristen impress me in the process … well, that's cool, too.
