Fantasia Performs “Even Angels” on ‘Oprah’

Picture 2Fantasia’s team must be trying to form her into the next Mary J. Blige or Whitney Houston, because the big-voiced singer is sporting a more classy, mature look nowadays—gone are the days of the asymmetrical skunk hair and uh, whatever you call this. And they’re not just taking styling cues from those legendary divas—Fantasia performed a very Blige-worthy track on Oprah today, the inspirational “Even Angels.” Watch her powerful live performance after the jump:

Fantasia – “Even Angels”

Fantasia’s performances really elevate a mostly generic feel-good R&B song to something much more meaningful. The woman lives and breathes every word of her song—hell, she’s practically on the verge of tears near the end!

Although her personal life has suffered a bit, the Idol alum’s career is getting a second wind: her VH1 reality show is a hit for the network, and she’s about to drop her third studio album. With all this good luck, it’ll be that much more difficult for Fantasia For Real producers to find drama to feature on the show. (They can always invite the Jersey Shore cast for an episode!)

This definitely is NOT a Mary type track. More Whitney. As for the change, I think we all do as time goes by. You don'tkeep the same hair cut or style. I think it's great.

Thank you Oprah for letting Tasia set the record straight. It amazes me how people love to put others down, and Tasia has certainly been in the center of it more often than not. It astonishes me that a singer who can make Aretha, Patti, Elton, etc. cry tears of joy when she performs their music takes a back seat to the studio produced, overdubbed singers that top the charts these days. She looked amazing and sounded fantastic. I love the restraint she showed in singing this song, as those of us who have been blessed to see her perform live know she was probably itching to kick off her shoes and let it rip. I look forward to the incredible journey that I know Fantasia will take us on as she continues to sing from her soul and bless folks like me with that hair raising tingle that few can accomplish these days. Higher and higher…

Fantasia is a great singer,I wish she would not HOLLER so much, it takes away from her singing and you really can't hear her voice …one of my favorite songs by her is “shoulda listened to my best friend ” she is not hollering much on this song and you can really hear her great singing voice…

  4. I really enjoyed this performance by Fantasia. I love her whether she “hollers” (which seems to annoy some), or not. That is her style. Either you like it or you don't. Do not tell an artist how NOT to be themselves. LOL. Also, as another poster stated, I'm glad that Oprah gave Tasia the platform to tell the truth about what happened in her situation. She didn't just blow her money. She had lawsuits amongst other things. Again, I really enjoyed Fantasia on Oprah. She was classy and well spoken. Thank you for posting this video.

This is Toni Braxton type of music. I think it’s way better than the new Whitney and Mary…sorry…but their time is up.

I am sooooo proud of Fantasia's team for the conversion. Before when I saw her she looked as if a tropical bird had been electricuted. Her then vocals just did'nt match her then looks, the song she did on Oprah along with the more down to earth mature looks, her voice now matches her looks and she was beautiful. She could have never made be believe that song she sang on Oprah had she been dressed as a punk rocker. I feel that after seeing her now look and the matching songs, Fantasis can be in the company of a mary j. blidge, an early whitney houston etc. Keep up the good work (fantasia's team) you've brought her back to life.

This is called growth. yiou are not an artist unless you grow in your music and style. She has a very powerful voice, so to say she she hollers is a disrespect to her. This is her style and if you like her voice you respect this from her. I fell so much compassion for her when I watch her sing I see why GOD has blessed her so much. She is a true strong black women

I love this song. This girl is too talented to let people bring her down. She should stay away from lowlife men, married men and family that is emptying her pockets before she could say hello. Enough is enough family!! Get a life!

I grew up with Fanny; ate her out for the first time when I was 82. I can personally vouch that she hollers the same way during orgasm. Yeah, yyyeah, yyyeah!
