With just three weeks left till the release of Goldfrapp’s fifth studio album Head First, it’s time to take a listen to another track off the album. Head below for the bouncy, synthy (aren’t they all?) confection “Alive,” which features additional production by Richard X (who also remixed lead single “Rocket”).
Like “Rocket” and “Believer,” “Alive” will have you conjuring up visions of Xanadu and Supertramp while reaching for a pair of legwarmers. “Like the way that you drive your car, I like the way that you turn your head,” Alison Goldfrapp sings. And that’s perfect, because Head First is shaping up to be the first great listen-while-driving album of 2010.
Getting back to “Rocket,” Alison posted the following on the duo’s blog last week:
“you’re probably wondering where the hell the ‘rocket’ video is? there has been quite a bit of post production on this (and very little budget) so people have been working really hard to get it to you as soon as we possibly can. it’s nearly there…….!”
She’d best start cracking the whip, though—”Rocket” is being made available at digital download stores next week.

god i love this song
Fuck Ellen — Goldfrapp is my new favorite middle-aged Lesbian of Pop.
What the hell are you talking about you muppet?!! Alison Goldfrapp is no lesbian!
me gusto jeje, me like it
No Supertramp at all. Total ELO. Chord progression in verses pays homage to Shine A Little Love. And yes the outro is almost a sample of it. Smart, funny, brilliant. I love all three tracks, but it is slight.
This song is so amazing!
You may be thinking of Xanadu because the film's opening track, “I'm Alive” by Electric Light Orchestra, has some very close similarities. Let's go with the term “inspired homage” rather than “rip off.”
