Adam Lambert seriously has split personalities. While promoting his debut album in Australia, Adam graced his presence at Sydney’s Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras as a shoulder-studded, diamond-codpiece-adorning slice of pop sex—and then managed to morph into a subtle crooner while working the daytime talk show circuit on morning show Sunrise. Not many other artists can excel at being a funky, brazen glam space rocker by night and a delicate, understated singer during daytime hours, but Adam handles the personality switch effortlessly.
After the jump, watch the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde of the pop world strutting his leather-and-latex-clad bod during “For Your Entertainment” at Mardi Gras, followed by a sweet and toned down acoustic rendition of “Whataya Want From Me.”
“For Your Entertainment” – Sydney Mardi Gras
“Whataya Want From Me” acoustic – Sunrise
If Adam’s underwear could go for $8,500 on eBay, just imagine how much that codpiece could raise!

His voice, life-outlook, personality and versatility is so, so refreshing to me. Beautiful.
I love this man so much. Love his ability to morph his stage persona with such ease. I am thoroughly entertained by both Adams. Hard to pick a favorite.
I love how he is constantly switching things up and keeping his performances fresh. He's so versatile you never know what you're gonna get next, you just know it'll be awesome.
Simply put…..BRILLIANT!!!!
Thank you Idolator for not being a douche and actually posting both fabulous videos, unlike people like Perez who are only interested in one thing.
FINALLY! Thank You! It's wonderful to see written and demonstrated what Adam's fans have known and the casual audience never gets! The man is not only a very gifted & talented singer; He is a performance artist! Each song is sung based on the lyrics, and each performance is based on the venue. Adam always changes things – even when singing the same song – it is never the same way twice.
Adam dresses for the song and audience. The cod piece was for a gay and lesbian Mardi Gras crowd in Australia. He sang his very sexual “For Your Entertainment” because it is #1 on their pop itunes. He was having fun. He never takes himself too seriously. He looked so good with glitter everywhere. His stripped version was for Sunrise. Different audience. Different venue. He is honest and a great entertainer. He has my respect.
You're welcome! We loved both of Adam's performances – that acoustic take on “WWFM” is especially beautiful. Would love for him to release a completely acoustic album.
His acoustic Whole Lotta Love and What Do Ya Want From me are fantastic,,I hope he releases both,,,this man can sing,,,,,,,,,
Adam is brilliant!! Whether he is glitter, fierce and wild, or gentle and soft, he is so versatile, not just his looks but the same song done so many different ways. His fans have always known just how brilliant he is, his vocals are unmatched. I am glad the rest of the world is now getting a chance to experience Adam.
Right… Adam's performance is like a mini-play where there is a setting, a story-line, and character development with appropriate custome to enhance the plot and make it engaging and intereting to the specific audience. An isolated picture or even a video without understanding the audience inner feelings does not make justice to this incredibly talented artist. An Adam fan for life….
Adam looks gorgeous night, and day! His performance at Sydney's Mardi Gras was spectacular. I hope he reprises that same exact performance when he tours in the U.S.. I hope it includes that hot costume too!
Love love love Adam. Both performances were pure Glambert. The first one will of course be singled out by people who take everything out of context, but it was right on for the venue, song and crowd. That second, acoustic performance stopped me in my tracks. I do wish we could see the stripped-down, makeup-less Adam a bit more in his U.S. TV appearances. He did pull it out on Oprah, but I think it would be easier for him to bring new fans into the fold if we could just see that beautiful face and hear his voice clearly a bit more often. Sometimes his skill seems a bit hidden under all the glitter and a wall of sound.
Adam is the consumate performance artist! I love his OTT performances just as much as his accoustic sensitive ones! He is just simply amazing!
Adam is brilliant! Love, love him!
I don't know what it is but this kid fascinates me. He is so extreme from one end of the spectrum to the next. You never know what he's going to do next. Plus I find it hysterical that he shocks the hell out of conservative Amercia. Personally, I will become an instant fan of anyone who can get the tightie-righties foaming at the mouth.
When I saw the pics of that Mardi Gras performance on the Internet my first instinct was to print them and hand them out to conservative groups across the country and watch the veins pop out of their head. Quick hide your children!!
From everything I've been reading clearly Aussies love the guy. Can you believe this guy was on American Idol? I mean the videos and pics were out there while he was on American Idol and this Mardi Gras outfit is quite tame in comparison to some of the outfits he sported prior to appearing on idol.
Thank you American Idol for finally doing something right. Finally someone interesting. There is this faction of America that loves vanilla. That loves blending into the woodwork. How dull.
Adam Lambert is facinating, exciting, one of a kind singer/artist/performer. He connects to the song emotionally and becomes one with the lyrics. He stires all kind of emotions in viewers the way no one is able to do. I can't imagine life withuot Adam Lamberts music, i am addicted to Adam, there i said it.
Fantastic article! Although, he actually bought the codpiece IN Australia and then bedazzled it for the show. Just for the sake of accuracy, you know…
Hello, the annual Mardi Gras in Sydney is the largest world wide -Adam wore a costume, as did every attendee and most of the entire city. That is not a change of personality, it is dressing as part of the performance interpreting lyrics. It depends on the song he is singing. It is hard to beleve you don't know that by now, since he has esplained it often enough. Therefore, I think the writer, here, is just trying to bash Adam by naming him Dr Jekell Mr Hyde and trying to harm him. Jealousy probably, Adam has a life and the writer is a spectator.watching him live in, and being a bitter loser.
