Poor Mimi. Sometimes angels really do have a reason to cry. Much like Mariah Carey’s disappointing (sales-wise, at least) parent album Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, the rushed remix version, Angels Advocate, had been plagued by frequently-delayed release dates. Now it’s been confirmed by main Mariah fan site Mariah Journal that the whole project has been shelved for the most part. That said, there might be another full studio album from the whistle-register diva on the way. Read below.
Says Mariah Journal:
According to Mariah’s management, the album will not be put out in the regular album fashion but they are working on releasing some singles off the album. ‘It won’t go to waste,’ we were assured.
Mariah and her team have their focus set on the next album and how to put this out creatively and financially effective. ‘We are looking to go possibly to another studio album or Christmas album. The decision hasn’t been totally made yet. It’s a creative process that cannot be rushed.’
Our advice: someone in that camp needs to grow a pair and have a serious come-to-Jesus sitdown with Mimi, and tell her it’s high time she decided if she’s going to be a hip hop-lite artist or a pop balladeer—which is how she started off (and found her greatest success). Flip-flopping between the two has been confusing her original fans for well over a decade now.
The most glaring example was releasing the more urban-sounding Eminem diss jam “Obsessed” last summer, then following it up with a limp cover of Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is.”
Mariah, you’re not a jukebox. In fact, you’re one of pop’s greats. But that train has been derailed for about two albums now. We know you have some great melodies in there. Just give us back the old Mariah—that finger-waving diva who can knock a slow jam out of the park faster than you can say “Whitney who?”—and leave the already over-crowded rap game to the Trinas and Nicki Minajes of the world.
I understand your point of view. She should have done Obsessed as a single and called it a day. That clown rapper needed to have someting said to him since you in the media wont address him. But besides that, Memoirs was not well thought out or properly produced in my opinion. Mariah does need to rest and have that come to Jesus meeting and just put out good solid music with her vocals. One good guest rapper or singer is enough on a Mariah record.
I love Mariah's diversity.
She is amazing.
And that's why she has more #1's than any other solo artist. She must be doing something right.
Coco P, hindsight is 20/20 as they say, but in retrospect I feel like it all started to go wrong when Mariah and/or the label decided to release “Bye Bye”—basically a “safe” rehash of “One Sweet Day”—as the second single from E=MC2. That's a shame, since “Touch My Body” was a decent jam, and a deserved #1 given the other songs populating the chart at that time. I think radio smelled a rat and felt Mariah had lost her mojo. And I do like “Obsessed,” but that album just felt rushed out after the previous one failed to garner more than one hit.
YES, Robbie. You hit the nail on the proverbial head right there. “Bye Bye” was where EVERYTHING went south. Just an awful song and an even worse video. She couldn't pick the momentum up after that awful dud.
Just makes me appreciate Madonna that much more.
That’s the problem when a lot of mariah fans brag about how huge she is in the US market compared to Madonna who’s huge worldwide and doesnt seem to sell anymore in the US. . Mariah had the US territory to topple madonna on singles and albums, but now that mimi is having that curse Madonna-Bush effect, where is she to sell her stuff? even her lambs didnt support her , convinced that her last two albums are a waste of money. Well that makes Madonna more of a Queen of music for her last album managed to sell enough in the US compared to the Memoirs. A greatest hits album versus a studio album…Ouch!
Still Mariah is just a pop star amd Madonna is the Pop Queen.
