With all that’s going on out there in the world, you’d think people would have better things to get up in arms over than Erykah Badu strolling around JFK assassination site Dealey Plaza in nothing but her birthday suit in the “Window Seat” music video. (Come on, if you want offensive, there’s possibly a Mariah Carey musical in the works, after all, folks.) Badu hit up Chelsea Lately last night to discuss the “comstockery,” as she called it, surrounding her controversial clip—before the conversation inevitably veered to a discussion about host Chelsea Handler’s gold underwear. Watch below.

“It’s a way to sell tabloids or bring attention to the media,” Badu said to Handler when discussing the furor over her video. “I don’t think it was so crazy or bad.”

Badu defended herself further last night on Twitter, after the Chelsea Lately episode aired. “I would never disrespect JFK,” she wrote. “His revolutionary thinking is my inspiration. My performance art has been grossly misinterpreted by many.”

At the very least, the controversy is probably adding to Erykah’s album sales. New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh was released this week and is currently #2 on iTunes and #4 on Amazon. HITS Daily Double projects sales of the LP to be in the 110,000 to 120,000 range, with it coming in just behind Usher’s Raymond v. Raymond.
