‘American Idol’: Michael Lynche Is Axed, Then Saved

Michael Lynche Andrew Garcia American Idol Bottom three 3Last night not a single female contestant found themselves in the bottom three on American Idol. Instead, Aaron Kelly’s built-in fanbase seemed to have finally driven off the long and winding road, Andrew Garcia did the familiar walk to the center of the stage and Michael Lynche proved that at this stage in the game, no one is safe. Well, except for maybe Tim Urban. He just might win this thing.

Head below to watch Big Mike get this season’s one and only save from the judges, plus performances by David Archuleta, Jason Derulo and Rihanna.

There was general shock, awe and audience uproar when Andrew Garcia was announced “safe” last night—thereby meaning soulful early favorite Michael Lynche was to be eliminated. After all, did you see the judges faces?

Or Crystal Bowersox’s face?

And then there was Big Mike’s wife…

Big Mike's wifeAt any rate, the judges did indeed invoke the save, which makes us think this decision could come back to haunt them when Crystal Bowersox or Siobhan Magnus land in the bottom three.

Anyway, here’s how it all played out:

And below are the guest performers from last night’s results show:

David Archuleta, reprising one his Season 7 faves, “Imagine.”

Jason Derulo, who was originally signed by judge Kara DioGuardi (and who appears to have stolen one of Ne-Yo’s hats!), doing “Whatcha Say/In My Head.”

Rihanna, with “Rockstar 101.” (Remind us again why she didn’t do her current #1 hit “Rude Boy” instead of this dirge?)

Next week: two contestants will get the boot. Yeah, now who’s crying over Michael Lynche?

Holly cow, I thought Big Mike was a goner, good thing they have the save.
I think Crystal and Mike are the best two performers on this season.
The only thing i'm not happy with is next week we loose 2 singers rite? that's how the save works?
Looking forward to Adam Lambert, things might just pick up a step or two.

  2. Mr RB, yep, two contestants will be goners next week. Maybe you only get one Adam Lambert every three or four years or so, but damn it'll be good to have him set foot on the 'Idol' stage this snoozy season.

America has it ALL WRONG!!! I don’t know what everyone is thinking by keeping Tim Urban on the show…His talents pale (at best)in comparison to the other remaining contestants. The show isn’t “American Smile”. Tim should’ve been gone weeks ago. The judges should be allowed to overide the voting results in situations like this. While I feel popularity plays a role in choosing the winner, I also think that singing talent is the key factor. There are four contestants which I feel can run away with this competition and Big Mike is one of them. Let’s get it together and start voting responsibly.

what is wrong with people?? Mike is by far the most talented male on the show this season and yet he was voted off before tim urban and the little kid? don't get me wrong, it is fun to watch aaron improve week to week but as an overall performer he just doesn't have much appeal. Tim kinda reminds me of the cheesy brady bunch/partridge family guy and just doesn't seem to have much versatility. Mike, hang in there!
