American Idiot: The Original Broadway Cast Recording drops April 20, but the entire album is currently streaming over at MTV. If you love Green Day’s politically-charged concept albums American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, you won’t be disappointed—the stage show’s soundtrack packs the same punch, but this time comes complete with multiple-part harmonies, female vocalists and even a few previously unreleased tracks penned by Billie Joe Armstrong. We saw the musical back when it debuted at Berkeley Rep—it’s the perfect blend of punk rock and musical theatre, a Rent for a younger, angrier generation. Pretend the Glee kids became incredibly jaded and disillusioned after graduating William McKinley High, and you’ve pretty much got the American Idiot musical.
