Ke$ha kicked off her visit to Saturday Night Live with an acapella intro to “TiK ToK”, which was so unexpected it briefly shifted our attention from her bizarre black metallic outfit (complete with a cape fashioned from an American flag, which probably hasn’t been used in association with such trashy pop music since this.) The live intro, of course, was just the lead-in to a strange, spacy performance featuring heavy use of pre-recorded backing vocal tracks, lasers and a band full of astronauts. Watch “TiK ToK” and “Your Love Is My Drug” below, and find out why Ke$ha is being accused of jacking Sia’s style, in addition to Uffie’s.
Ke$ha – “TiK ToK”
“Did anyone ever stop to think, maybe we are the aliens?” Nope, Ke$h, just you. Just you.And here’s Ke$ha’s performance of her new single, “Your Love Is My Drug”. As Gawker noted, Ke$ha’s day-glo body paint motif feels a little bit like a rip-off of Idolator favorite Sia’s performance of “Buttons” on Later… With Jools Holland two years ago. (Watch the original here and decide for yourself after seeing Ke$ha’s below) Then again, Sia didn’t seem to mind. Remember, Ke$ha’s has been going for the tribal look herself lately.
Ke$ha – “Your Love Is My Drug”

i think someone has been getting vocal lessons. thank god she actually sounded amazing in You Love is My Drug, and then on Tik Tok she blew me away. yay Ke$ha!!! :)
Everybody is ripping off of everybody these days.
Oh for crying out loud. You people tongue bathe Lady Gaga for her out there performances then trash this girl? She was entertaining and I enjoyed her performance.
So because someone uses facepaint, it’s automatically copying for the next person who does? In that case, Sia was ripping off all those old Western Native American’s in the John Wayne movies, etc. Grow up and stop picking the girl apart just because Perez Hilton hates her. Trashing someone because it’s the new trend is LAME.
Lol yeah but Lady Gaga is good. The performance seemed so…fake. The dancing was stupid and the concept didn’t connect to what she was singing. What was up with the cape? I just don’t get it. She didn’t even look like she was enjoying herself. She looked bored. Just my opinion.
When she did the first song Tik Tok, she seemed to be copying Adam Lambert's recent performance on American Idol. She came out singing acapella, had a space theme going on and lasers, just like Adam did. The only thing she didn't have was the smoke. I felt she was really original with the second song though. I keep wondering when they will have Adam on. They have had everyone else on there that has an album out. I thought Adam should have been on there by now.
“and the concept didn’t connect to what she was singing”
Well, that’s fine if you think that and I don’t disagree (The glow in the dark paint is actually used in her upcoming video, but since her video isn’t released it’s a disconnect). But in Ke$ha’s defense, she’s not saying she’s telling a story or trying to do anything but have fun and make people happy. Well, I guess the one thing she has said is that she wants people to remember that we are animals, too, both in the party sense if that’s what it takes to release your inhibitions and also for the sake of respecting other animals.
But, Just saying Lady Gaga doesn’t always connect to her stories either but her whole schtick is that she says she is a performance artist, not a musician.
Just playing Devil’s advocate here, not trying to say it’s wrong to dislike the performance.
I was almost killed on May 1, 2006, while walking to a demonstration in Colorado Springs. Someone threw a bottle at me from a truck. It missed my head by inches. The demonstration was part of a nationwide effort to demand a just solution to the problems faced by millions of immigrants to this country who do not have legal status. Across the country DJ’s were responsible for bringing out masses of people who live without the protections afforded citizens. To fight for their human rights.
I do not know where Kesha Rose Sebert was on May 1, 2006. I do know, from press reports, that there were huge demonstrations in Los Angeles.
I spoke to Richard Rorty when he was in town, about his response to Martha Nussbaum’s book, “For Love of Country.” He said his book “Achieving Our Country,” contained his reply. It contains a studied critique of the Left’s refusal to recognize the importance of the American Flag in the political realm. His criticism is withering.
One of the criticism’s of the May 1, 2006 demonstrations, as I recall, was that the Mexican Flag was too visible. So it goes.
Listening to music requires thinking. Someone should tell the boy’s over at Princeton to get their heads on straight. I’m pissed. Ask Muldoon if he wants to see some real criticism. I do not have a lot of time. But, he might look silly with no pants. He may want to apologize. I think I heard the girls are kicking it. Joy to them.
Oh, yeah, almost forgot, but, did not. I love you Kesha Rose Sebert. You kick ass.
Joy to you, Rose.
hahaha she's trying to be Lady Gaga. What a useless bitch.
fuck you flag kesha is great
Bitch please! She's about as original as a flat tyre.
fuck you squizree kesha is great
“YOURRR LOVVEE IS MAAA DRUGGGG” Honey, I think you've had a little bit too much love Kesha. You sound terrible.
that first video of tik tok is really strange. The whole thing feels awkward from start to finish. First, whats up with the silly intro and interlude in the middle? For such a shallow song that features her “rapping” those seem oddly out of place. Also, it seems unusually quiet during most of the song… is the crowd on SNL usually that quiet? It sounds strange, and it felt like they didn't know WHAT they were watching. She also keeps giving weird looks to the camera, like she isn't sure of herself – either that or they hadn't rehearsed it enough.
I also must say that honestly, she doesn't sound great – whether she's rapping or singing. It's all just so silly, she really seems like someone that was thrown into the spotlight before her performance & skills were really honed. She needs to get her chops up and get confident on stage.
ALSO, that Laser Harp bit is clearly a direct ripoff from Little Boots.

fuck you she hotter then you sqizree

Dont use my insult you pussy. And Mykal123 Im a guy you brainless piece of shit. Get some brains you dumb shit.
Ke$ha is a useless singer, have any of you actually heard her record her music? In her studio? My toilet seat can sing better than her.
Yeesh, go home you losers. Go suck dick.
shes trying to copy lady gagas old style :P
First time I heard “Tik Tok,” I thought it sounded like Uffie. Then I see Ke$ha on SNL, where in one performance, she rips off Little Boot’s Laser Harp and THEN rips off Sia? Does this bitch have an original thought? You can say “everybody rips off everybody” and yeah, Jean-Michel Jarre did the Laser Harp first, but Little Boots has said her inclusion of the Laser Harp is a kind of indirect tribute to Jarre’s influence, given her unique “electronic futurist pop” style. Ke$ha just seems to jack others with no rhyme or reason. Who would have thought that Uffie could actually have a longer shelf life than another artist?
can someone explain why at the beggining of tik tok she uses a briteny mic, but then reverts to a normal mic, explain why she needs two :S and does either of them actually work, if you have free time could you explain.. out of all the talentless pretty faces… that can jiggle around in glow in the dark to an autotuned backing track, why did they choose kesha?? there are way prettier women out there, some actually are talented….
