B.o.B Finds His Way With Coldplay Sample On “Lost”

Chart-topping Atlanta rapper/singer B.o.B (and his producers) have won over even the pickiest music fans with their impeccable choices in the songs for his forthcoming The Adventures Of Bobby Ray album. They recruited Paramore’s Hayley Williams to sow a little angst for “Airplanes”, added Eminem to punch up the sequel, and then snagged Janelle Monae and a clever Vampire Weekend sample for “The Kids”. Unconventional picks, right? But now we know: sooner or later, everyone has to follow the rules. And the rules state clearly that all modern hip-hop stars have to work with Chris Martin. Check the Coldplay sample in B.o.B’s unreleased “Lost” below:

The J.R. Rotem-produced track will actually not appear on Bobby Ray — apparently Martin & Co. refused to approve the use of the sample. Too bad, because that snippet of “Lost” propels B.o.B’s track even as it adds weight to B.o.B’s ultimately hopeful lyrics. (His label boss, T.I., contributes an unusually upbeat verse too). It’s not as tight as “Airplanes” or “The Kids”, though — as Prefix suggests — it might’ve been a fine addition to B.o.B’s mixtape.

For now, we’ll just have to wait for B.o.B to get big enough that Coldplay wants to sample him.

What do you think of the track?
