Beyoncé Dusts Off Her Grammys In “Why Don’t You Love Me?” Video

May 4th, 2010 // 11 Comments

Car repair was just the beginning. Beyoncé, in a role as adorable (and funny) as we’ve ever seen her, has a house party of one in the nostalgic, 60s-inspired video for “Why Don’t You Love Me?” In the video, she waters the plants, takes a bubble bath, drinks mid-day martinis while crying, cleans the dust off her impressive collection of Grammys—you know, typical 60s housewife stuff. Watch below.

Beyoncé – “Why Don’t You Love Me?”

The video was directed by Melina Matsoukas, who has worked with Bey on several previous clips, including her Alicia Keys collaboration, “Put It In A Love Song.” Besides the various vintage looks Beyoncé sports throughout the clip, it looks like she and Knowles took the 60s soul vibe of the song one step further and filmed “Why Don’t You Love Me?” on 16mm film.

After the just-plain-weirdness of her “Video Phone” clip, we’re happy to have the supercute, retro-style Beyoncé charm our pants off as she cuts a rug. If this is what it’s like living with the pop diva on a daily basis, we have yet another reason to envy Jay-Z.

Now let’s all get #BeyonceOnMadMen trending on Twitter, shall we? Don’t tell us Beyonce’s curves wouldn’t give Joan’s a run for their money.

beyonce why don't you love me

Awesome song and video, I can’t stop watching it!

  2. Ron

Giselle, Ron here, to compliment you on a brilliant video. Joy to you. If I have my way, and I will, the equivocation of the sense of your name, which may bother you, shall be resolved to your satisfaction. You deserve it. I don’t know if you realize it, but I was in Houston on the day of your birth, trying desperately to find my way. The city seemed to be without love. Police hits on gay activists, rape, racism, sexism, etc…

The answer to the question you pose in the video, “Why don’t you love me?” is simple. And, it is always the same. The reason why I do not love you, when spoken or imagined or thought, by one individual, with reference to another, is because I do not know you. I can only love that which I know. And I must love that which I know. Faith may aid me in coming to know, but faith alone does not suffice to give birth to love. Nor to sustain it once it appears in the world.

In the video, as I see it, the problem women encountered was a function of both being freed to control their own lives, and being told at the same time that there was no truth, really, by which they could judge their thoughts and actions. Same held true for men. And, where there is no truth, love can not dwell.

Giselle, your video reminds me of my Ma. In a really, really good way. She fought like no one else I ever seen. And the society she lived in did its best to break her. It killed many of the men who fought to make it better. And left many women, alone and with no voice, to try to make sense of an apparently insane world.

Imagine, Giselle, B.B. at the end of the eighties. Fallen, at the bottom of the stairs, in a drunken stupor, and bleeding from a cut to her head caused by a broken glass ashtray. Imagine her saying, “If you love me, you will help me up. I’ll divorce your father, and leave. Please help me.” I don’t have to imagine. I was there. I thought about the deal she was offering. And, I refused to clean up the mess, or to help her up. And I told her I loved her, but I would not help her hide from the truth.

She died, many years later, in my father’s arms, sober and in love with my father.

If you see Ke$ha, Giselle, let her know I was here.

    Joy to you, Rose.

it’s really an homage to bettie page and the 40′s…not the ’60′s.

    • Well, Bettie Page was actually famous in the 50s. And at least in Bey’s video, I personally see fashion and architecture influences by what was popular in the 60s. (Think A Single Man or Mad Men – this set and style wouldn’t be out of place in those movies/tv shows.)

i dont really like this vid although it was inflence by the 60′s vib and all i think it wasnt well executed and i also dont fell the song it is not my favourite song from beyonce

  5. lisa

First of all this video is wack, and to all you losers that take up for bey like shes paying your damn bills or even knows if you exist that want to call me a hater who cares. i like many people have bey albums but nobody is perfect and bey has plenty of cash where she can sit down for awhile. the song was so stupid and that video like what the hell was she trying to do just show that she works out or show the new body parts she purchased. and trust me im sure shes gotten work done because look at bey in her destinys child days and now she looks totally different and im so tired of people acting like bey is the standard of beauty for black women when in actuality no black woman looks like her naturally not even her and bey is getting a little over zealous as well of course she is uber famous and successful but its safe to say the humble bug has left her and its finally starting to show (i.e. 16 grammys) was that necessary like we cant go online and see that dumb shit.unfortunately bey has the drag queens and white america in a spell as long as they exist this bitch will not stop and to all you dick riders out there you wana say im broke or ugly or watever thats why im hating eat a dick

  6. Bodie

She looks like a cow in this video.

  7. Bikini

This girl has a problem since Alicia push the video back she does a cheap copy of Lady Gaga video, she is a LIAR, CHEATER, and a FRAUD. Truly the fakest in the game.

  9. LolaMarie

Lmao..you are a reminder of how pathetic and hateful ppl could be….Hmm who are you to determined that she has a problem because Alicia Keys pushed back her video> are you her therapist? do you know her personally? ..I’m not a die hard Beyonce fan but I could totally respect her artistic stand point…Did you see her Flaws and all video..its quite reminiscent to this one ..and that video (flaws and all ) was made way before “telephone” …Stop hating … I bet you’re as real as they come ..right?
