Mary J. Blige recently remarked that “acting is not something I want to do, but need to do.” Looks like she’ll be filling that need with her first starring role, playing The High Preistess of Soul, Nina Simone, in a biopic of the jazz singer’s life. The project has been in development (with Mary attached as Nina) for over five years, and will finally begin shooting this September in France. No word yet whether the R&B diva be lip-syncing Nina’s songs or record her own versions, but we’re excited at the possibility of inducting MJB into the exclusive club of musicians who can actually act.
