We were cursing ourselves for not being across the pond this weekend for Europe’s biggest free ticket event of the year: BCC Radio 1′s Big Weekend. Thankfully, we have some smashing concert pics that are almost as good as being there (well, not almost). On May 2, 2008, I talked to Greil Marcus, about the nature of money. He had just given a lecture on Dylan’s “Masters of War.” I came to the lecture to try to understand the song. It sucks. It gets the whole world wrong, and by its errors incorporates the hate of the oppressors into the hearts of the oppressed. Good job, Zimmerman. But, I don’t blame you for what you did, because you had to do it. No need for forgiveness. We do need to understand the song, and where it goes wrong. I’ll leave that job for the scholars.
