David Letterman made a punchline out of Christina Aguilera last night without even realizing it. During his introduction of the Bionic diva, he noted that Xtina has sold 30 million records throughout her career. “That’s crazy,” he said. Then he held up a copy of Bionic and innocently noted, “Well, here’s one she hasn’t sold.” The album just went on sale on Tuesday, and currently it’s getting whooped on iTunes by both Glee‘s Journey To Regionals EP and the Twilight Saga: Eclipse soundtrack. Here’s hoping Dave’s words don’t end up being prophetic. Watch Christina’s interview and performance on the Late Show after the jump.
Dave and Christina’s four-minute conversation pretty much covers all the basics: her kid and how he inspired her to experiment more with her sound. She also discusses her work with the World Food Program charity.
And here she is performing Bionic ballad “You Lost Me,” a classic-sounding Christina tune that probably has far greater chances of becoming a hit than “Not Myself Tonight” did.

just wanted to state that Letterman was not making a “punchline” at Christina . . I was at the show’s taping . .He was just clearly saying she did not sell the CD he was holding in his hand because she gave it to him for free . .just figured I would clear that up
Hey Jessica, I know Dave wasn’t intentionally making a punchline, hence the “without even realizing it” bit. Really hoping “You Lost Me” is the next single.
This song is chilling and she performed it masterfully Christina is one of the few artists who can put out an amazing ballad and sing it just as good if not better live.
This song is absolutely gorgeous, besides i love lift me up great songs
I thought that was an excellent interview. David Letterman was brilliant. Christina was equally brilliant. It is interesting to see mutual respect between two individuals. The lyrics of the song, however, appear to me to be wrong. Because love contains within itself mutual respect, and has no place for the tragic. Unless, of course, Ke$ha shows up wanting to party. Then you’re screwed. Not even Letterman could maintain his dignity, under such conditions.
Joy to you, Rose.
Your an idiot.
He said 30 million ALBUMS not records you creep, she’s sold 43 million records and 30 million albums.
For a journalist your not very smart…
