Jackie Collins’ biggest inspiration R. Kelly helped open the 2010 FIFA World Cup in Johannesburg, South Africa, today by singing his inspirational anthem “I Believe I Can Fly”—oops!—make that “Sign Of Victory.” New York mag’s Vulture blog notes that R. did nothing short of the following when prepping to write the song: bought books about soccer at Borders! Ran drills with the Chicago Fire team! Watched Invictus! Geez—he’s a regular De Niro. Did all that research pay off?
