Kelis hit up the Tonight Show With Jay Leno for the first North American TV performance of her new single “4th of July (Fireworks)”, and she went off like an M80. Resplendent in a summery blue dress, Kelis performed with three DJs (including the song’s producer, DJ Ammo). And those butterflies in her hair? She says they’re real. What will PETA say? We do love the way she sounds just a little raspy on the hook. This one is clearly headed for the clubs – remix, anyone?

As for the butterflies, Kelis is heading off PETA at the pass. She  tweeted that she “didn’t kill them. Lol morons”.
