‘So You Think You Can Dance’: So Long Christina, Hello There Debi Nova

While we predicted yesterday that Melinda and Christina would once again be in the bottom three, seeing Robert dance for his life is something we never expected to see on last night’s SYTYCD.  Sadly, with her audition partner Pepe cheering her on from the audience, Christina was voted off (by Mia and Adam) from Season 7. Jump below for the Cliff’s Notes version of Thursday’s Top 10 elimination show—including a brilliant performance from SYTYCD amigo Brian Gaynor and his dance crew. And see if you caught any of the small details on our “Did You Notice” list.

Before we get to the eliminations, let’s enjoy Sonya Tayeh‘s “clothes splitting” Jazz routine to Crooker’s “Royal T”. Sonya is on a roll this season, it’s just one spectacular dance after another. We want to know what sort of creative multivitamin she’s taking in the morning.

Melinda, Christina, and Robert dancing for their lives:

We agree with Nigel’s vote to eliminate Melinda. She’s unable to connect with the audience, both in the studio and at home. The whole theory behind having only 10 competitors this season was to get to know the personalities behind the performers we see week after week. Aside from being beat over the head by both judges and Melinda about how impressive it is that she’s tap dancer (may we remind you, so is Alex Wong), we haven’t found anything in the interview sessions or in her performances that makes us want more from her. Unfortunately, in spite of the fact that this is Nigel’s show, he was out voted two to one and Christina got the boot. The dancers didn’t seem as visibly emotional about her departure as they did with Alexie’s elimination.  We wondered why?

The “Old Friends Of The Show” Brian Gaynor and Remote Control perform:

Debi Nova (aka Deborah Nowalski Kader) performs “Drummer Boy” with six of the All-Stars off of her upcoming album Luna Nueva. We thought the dancing was muy caliente, but the costumes reminded us a bit of The Cosby Show Season 5 opening.

DID YOU NOTICE:

::Christina’s mess up in the opening routine?

::Kent Boyd’s price tag (size label?) still attached to his pants when he found out he was safe this week.

::That nearly every female All-Star (Courtney, Comfort, Anya) defended their male dance partner when the judges gave critiques of their performance, but not one male All-Star stood up for their female dance-mate. Hmmm.

What do you think of the judges decision to send Christina home? Who of the remaining 9 will be next on the chopping block? Leave us your comments below.

We’ll see you next week for the Top 9.
