Geez—we’ve seen installments of Friday The 13th that were more tame than Maroon 5’s music video for bouncy summer jam “Misery.” Directed by visual maestro Joseph Kahn (who most recently had Kylie Minogue cooing atop a human pyramid), the clip features M5 frontman Adam Levine getting kicked, punched, thrown off a building, bitten, hit by a car and having his head slammed in the door of a bathroom stall by a foxy babe. But that’s nothing compared to what happens to his bandmates. Watch below!

See, this is what happens when you forget your anniversary, gents.

Levine spoke to MTV in May about the concept behind the clip. “The cool thing is, when Joseph wrote the treatment… after reading a few sentences, I thought it was really amazing,” the singer explained while on the set of the video. “Because it kind of turns the whole idea of the sexual energy between two people—a guy and a girl, a music video, you’ve seen that a million times— hat exists in this video, but it’s turning it on its ass and having the girl be the more domineering one who’s trying to kill me.”

What? Would you rather see him acting out actual “misery”? That would be real cheery.

“‘Misery’ is about… the desperation of wanting someone really badly in your life but having it be very difficult,” Levine told MTV. “Kind of what all the songs I write are about.”

Yes, that—and girls in tight shirts and holding rocket launchers.
