Jewel Plays A Foolish Game On Local Karaoke Bar With The Help Of Funny Or Die

Pop stars sure love their karaoke. Last month, Kelly Clarkson stopped in at a Nashville karaoke bar . And now, Jewel’s gone karaokeing too—but with a twist. The singer/songwriter/poet teamed up with comedy website Funny Or Die to pull a sweet trick on some lucky unsuspecting karaoke bar customers by giving them the performance of a lifetime. The catch: none of the bar patrons know it’s Jewel. Click below to see the Alaskan songbird perform live and completely incognito below.

A pair of glasses, a prosthetic nose (a la Nicole Kidman in The Hours), a brown wig, and an ill-fitting business suit and suddenly everyone’s favorite Alaskan guitar strummer has transformed into frozen foods saleswoman. Jewel—oops we mean Karen, and her FOD team (or dressed as business associates) drop in on the Santa Monica karaoke bar, The Gas Light.

After several patrons sing, it’s time for Karen’s coworkers to take the mic. They keep urging shy, mousy Karen to come join them, but she’s too shy. That is until “Who Will Save Your Soul” comes on the karaoke machine. The audience is immediately dumfounded and the uncanny vocal resemblence of Karen to Jewel. They even beg her for an encore. Outside one bar patron even tells Karen she could really go places with her voice.

Finally, it’s time for Jewel to reveal her true identity. She reenters the club as herself and the crowd completely looses it. They’d been standing mere feet from Jewel the entire time getting a private concert and they didn’t even know it! Jewel then goes on to sing “Foolish Games” to an entire cheering karaoke bar. Watch the brilliant rouse go off without a hitch below.

We hope FOD strikes again with this format. What pop star would you want to see do Undercover Karaoke next?
