Lauryn Hill Comes Back Around With Newly Unearthed “Repercussions”

Great pop never goes out of style. That’s why it’s a THRILL to hear a previously unreleased track from the legendary Lauryn Hill, the reclusive vocalist of the Fugees. It appears that “Repercussions” is an outtake from her Grammy-winning classic LP, The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill, but it’s certainly curious that it’s surfaced just before her much-hyped return to the stage as part of the Rock The Bells tour. Listen — and learn — after the jump.

The (not-quite-complete) track finds Hill supple vocals floating over a dreamy piano line, sounding so comfortable that it’s easy to miss her grim message, “what goes around comes around”.

You have to wonder what Nicki Minaj thinks of this one. Is anyone out there making R&B quite like this today? No. But maybe — just maybe — Lauryn will. Here’s hoping.
