Has Kara DioGuardi Been Fired From ‘American Idol’?

Rumors of the revolving door at American Idol spinning off its hinges persist, following the news of Ellen Degeneres’ departure after a lone season of judging and word that Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler have now been added to the roster. Keep in mind, the latter has yet to be confirmed by the Idol camp. But now TMZ reports that Kara DioGuardi has been given her walking papers. (What was it—the Katy Perry fight?)

TMZ says that sources tell the site the series is going back to a three-judge format , a la the first seven seasons (ah, the good ol’ days). So in other words, that would be Randy, Steven Tyler and J-Lo.

“We’re told the only way Kara could get a reprieve is if the J-Lo deal falls apart—but we’re told that deal is done,” TMZ notes. MTV News goes on to point out that, unlike Simon and Randy, Kara’s deal with the show was only on a year-to-year basis, and that it’s “assumed that her option for a third year was not picked up.”

So what do you think, Idol fans? It’s no secret that Kara had her detractors among viewers of the program. But with the exception of Randy (and, we’re assuming, Ryan Seacrest—though who really knows at this point?), American Idol is beginning to look more and more unrecognizable as it heads into Season 10.

Will you be tuning in when January rolls around—out of morbid curiosity, at least?
