Then And Now: Eight Things That Have Changed In Lady Gaga’s Lollapalooza Set

Lady Gaga will be reigning over the opening night of the Lollapalooza festival tonight, and despite all the pre-show chatter, we’re not sure which version of Gaga we’re going to get: the playful, self-effacing pop star, the outspoken firebrand, or something altogether different. One thing is certain: she’ll be a very different performer than the up-and-coming new singer who rocked Lollapalooza back in August of 2007 — that’s right, she’s done this before.

Check below for our comprehensive rundown of how much has changed since Gaga last graced Chicago’s Grant Park — and the one thing that’s remained the same.

1)  Before: 500 unenthusiastic onlookers.

Now: A massive crowd full of Little Monsters.

2) Before: A tiny stage. Back in 2007, Gaga performed on BMI’s wee stage with a lone disco ball hanging in the center acting as a set.

Now: A custom giant stage which has cost upwards of $150,000 paid for by the festival.

3) Before: Three years ago, the “Bad Romance” singer played at 3 p.m. on Saturday, the second day of the festival.

Now: Gaga is headlining tonight (the festival’s opening night).

4) Before: No album. In August of 2007, the pop phenomenon was recently signed to Interscope, but Gaga didn’t have an album yet.

Now: As of May 2010, the “Telephone” songbird has sold over 15 million albums.

5) Before: One costume for her entire 45-minute set which was comprised of a disco ball-inspired sequined bra top and a black bikini bottom.

Now: Well, it’s safe to say that Lady Gaga will have at least five costume changes. And by costumes we mean complete fashion ensembles which will most likely go beyond anything we’ve ever seen before or could ever imagine.

6) Before: Light poppy fun dance music.

Now: From “Alejandro” to “Bad Romance”, Gaga’s dancey tunes have found depth through her more emotional, dramatic lyrics.

7) Before: The dancers at Lady Gaga’s 2007 show included Lady Gaga and performance artist Lady Starlight who also DJ’d the set.

Now: A complete set of backup dancers (which in the past have included the likes of SYTYCD All-Star Marc Kanemura) with a number of impressive choreographed routines.

And this picture above brings us to our final comparison:

8)Before: No stage blood.

Now: Never enough stage blood.

Amisdt all the changes that success to her concert performances that success has allowed her, it’s nice to know that one thing remains the same: Gaga still loves to perform in glorified lingerie.
