Whatcha Say: The Good, The Bad And The ‘Burlesque’ In This Week’s Comments

This week we heard Taylor Swift’s new song “Mine”, stifled our laughter through Christina Aguilera and Cher’s corny lines of dialogue in the Burlesque trailer, and were treated to two behemoth video premieres in one day: Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love The Way You Lie” video literally went up in flames, right before Kanye West’s moving painting lit our souls on fire (for about 90 seconds). And our readers had a heck of a lot to say about all these moments in music, and more. Take the jump for this week’s best reader comments!

:: Some folks loved Taylor Swift’s new single “Mine”, like user Amber, who thinks Taylor could write a beautiful song about garbage: “She as such a beautiful voice everything sounds good that she sings! if she had a song the that was about trash she could make it a hit! no offense though i love all her lyrics! Well done Taylor once again!”

:: And others didn’t. Janice sums up her opinion in four simple, somewhat misspelled words and several exclamation points: “Taylor mine is aweful!!!!!”

:: Toyadabarbie only had one thought when she saw Katy Perry checking out her own behind in “Katy Perry Is Enamored With Her Own Derriere”: “what ass.” Guess she’s suggesting that Katy do some squats to round out that booty!

:: Stella was bowled over by neoclassical Kanye on “Kanye West’s ‘Power’ Painting Comes To Life”: “Kanye has done it…again! This is the most creative music video I’ve ever seen. Amazing!”

:: Idolator’s commenters loved Eminem and RiRi’s “Love The Way You Lie” video (“Eminem And Rihanna Watch It Burn In The ‘Love The Way You Lie’ Video”), and user Jen felt the need to defend the controversial clip from the critics: “I don’t agree with the critics take on this video. This video and song are a warning to others from those who have lived and done it. Very well done and it represents both sides well. Thank you for giving a voice to those of us who can’t explain it well enough to shout for help.”

:: Eyon was overjoyed at hearing a new Robyn track on “Robyn And Snoop Dogg Think ‘U Should Know Better’ On ‘Body Talk Pt. 2’ Track”: “The three short albums is a good idea. Maybe by the third album us Americans will stop being stupid and (gasp) expand our taste in pop music.” We hope so, too, Eyon!

:: Sandy got a little, uh, distracted while watching David Archuleta’s new video (“David Archuleta Walks The Long Road In His ‘Something ‘Bout Love’ Vid”): “I kept focusing on his eyes, and amazing ‘lips’ and would forget to listen tot he song!! hahahahaha.” We’re not sure why “lips” is in quotation marks, Sandy, but you should go back and listen to the song!

:: True Blue was not feeling Katy Perry’s leftover (we hope it’s not on the album, anyway) Teenage Dream track “Milk Milk Lemonade” (“Katy Perry Overdoes The Entendres On Leftover Track ‘Milk Milk Lemonde'”) one bit: “I’m sorry, but Lil Kim, 112, 50 Cent, and Lil Wayne all do the ‘food-as-a-metaphor-for-sex’ thing far better than Katy. They bring an adult feel to it, Katy on the other hand sounds like a five-year-old making bad nursery rhymes. It’s terrible.”

:: We asked who sang “Already Taken” better, Trey Songz or R. Kelly, and the votes are in. Most of you preferred Kells’ demo of the track than Songz’s version on the Step Up 3-D soundtrack. Thomas elaborates on his choice: “must be tiny boopers on here saying trey. but it just shows r. kelly’s power. his demo version being compared to trey’s mastered version. vocally and muscially kellz is damn near untouchable.” Looks like R. Kelly wins this round!

:: Linda was pretty mad at us—me, specifically—for not including any Adam Lambert video in our picks for what should have been nominated for Video of the Year (“MTV VMAs: Are These Your Top 6 Videos Of The Year?”): “You are joking right? Where is Adam Lambert’s beautifully done and meaningful Whataya Want from Me or his inspiring If I Had You? Whoever left him out should be fired. He is now and the future, REAL talent.” Ouch! Should I start seeking unemployment now for my Glambert snub?

:: LMG had some strong opinions about Lady Gaga’s frontrunner status at this year’s VMAs: “A video should reflect the song. That IS what music videos are for, aren’t they? Why waste my time, and their money, for something that doesn’t represent the song?… I can’t deny that Gaga is something else and talented, so was Van Gogh and Beethovan, but there is a time where it just goes to far and I think this is it for her. At some point in time we need to look at her and see that she needs some serious help. White walls and staightjackets might not hurt either.”

:: Not A Fan is, to put it bluntly, not a fan of Ke$ha or her new video (“Ke$ha’s ‘Take It Off’ Is A Dionysian Orgy Of Glitter”): “I really wish people would quit buying her music so she’d disappear into oblivion! What a sorry excuse for music this video is! (I guess she’s trying to imitate Madonna & Lady Gaga!) What’s happened to the music world? Sad, sad, sad!”

:: And our COMMENT OF THE WEEK comes from user Bionic, describing his/her reaction to watching the Burlesque trailer: “THIS… CHANGES… EVERYTHING…” Christina certainly hopes it changes her album sales, at least!
