Sultry songstress Sky Ferreira has unveiled her debut American single, the bombastic “Obsession.” With its beat lifted from Gary Glitter’s 1972 classic “Rock And Roll” (by way of Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl”), the song launches into an irresistible near-four-minutes of hooks and sing-along lyrics. Will this jam become radio’s “obsession”? Head below to listen.
Sky Ferreira - Obsession
Ferreira recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the Ryan Tedder-penned song. “It’s kind of making fun of narcissism,” she said. “It has an electronic edge, but it also has this whole Gary Glitter intro that’s perfect for, say, a big hockey game.”
Yeah—we can totally picture the Penguins jamming to this one. “Obsession” and Ferreira’s European single “One” are set to appear on the 17-year-old pop singer’s debut album, which is set for a January 11, 2011 release. (Flip through exclusive pics from the album shoot.)
“One” will be made available overseas on August 23.

Its ok but “One” is so much better… I don’t understand why americans only like this type of songs… “One” should be a worldwide single. Its so well produced (Bloodshy & Avant’s work obviously). I’m tired of seeing great singers like Robyn, Kylie and now I think it could be Sky, that are worshiped around the world and being ignored in the US just because they are too good to make mediocre music.
Hopefully “Obsession” will open the door for “One” as a single here, Santiago. Fingers crossed!
Woah… Im Loving the New Line of Talent Thats Come out this Year so Far.. Sky Ferreira & Natalia Kills are my 2 Favorites so Far – im in Love with this.
One and Obsession are like two totally different genres. I think if she wants to do well in the US, Obsession is the way to go. Outside of Gaga, electro does not play well in America, so Obsession is sanitized enough. But I can’t believe that the Sky I listened to months and months ago is now finally in the spotlight! Way to go!
