Lauryn Hill Brings Out Beyoncé, Jay-Z And Alicia Keys During Rock The Bells

Picture 1On her first date at Rock The Bells, Lauryn Hill brought out Snoop Dogg for a much enjoyed cameo during her set—but the resurfaced artist was able to top herself tenfold at last Saturday’s show. During the “Fu-Gee-La” finale, she brought out a handful of her famous friends—including Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, (a very pregnant) Alicia Keys, her hubby Swizz Beatz, Chris Rock, and John Legend—to wave “what’s up” to the crowd. Jump below to check out the All-Star on-stage celebration.

It’s great to see Lauryn, who stayed out of the spotlight for several years, finally making her triumphant comeback (though we’re still waiting for her to drop another album). Then again, maybe she’s not—reports Vulture, apparently not swayed by famous hip-hop stars waving to the crowd:

While the manic energy Hill and her band was pouring out was appreciated, it meant most of the set list was more or less incomprehensible. (As in: we wish we could complain about Hill skipping her biggest solo hit in “Doo Wop (That Thing),” but we’re not actually sure that she did not, in fact, play “Doo Wop (That Thing)”). No complaints about her rapping, but where was the singing? Either unable or unwilling to reprise her past vocal showcases, the choppy live renditions mostly had Lauryn chanting her way through choruses and letting the back-up singers do the rest.

Hmm. Well, at the very least, she’s clearly having a better 2010 than her former Fugees bandmate Wyclef Jean.
