Weezer Auto-Tunes The News

The members of Weezer are generally appreciated by their fans for their sense of humor as much as their music—over the years, the band has dressed up in bug outfits, hung out with the Muppets, held a convention for every celebrity on YouTube, branded their own line of Snuggies, and goofed around with a bunch of skater-punks and jackasses. And now the band has teamed up with the Gregory Brothers for another installment of their musically informative web series, Auto-Tune The News. Watch Rivers Cuomo & Co. greenscreen it up by jumping below.

Auto-Tune the News #13: driving. stripping. swinging. (ft. Weezer)

Will this robotically-enhanced track be a Hot 100 hit like the bros’ “Bed Intruder Song“? It certainly wouldn’t be hard to top Weezer’s current status on the charts—their last entrant into Billboard‘s Hot 100 was 2009’s “(If You’re Wondering) If I Want You To”, which peaked at #81. (“Bed Intruder Song” is still holding in there at #94, FYI.) Plus, “Don’t leave me swinging in the wind” rivals “Umbrella, ella, ella, ay, ay, ay” in terms of instant catchiness.

Weezer’s album Hurley is out today. Buy it for the fantastic cover art alone.
