I’m officially boycotting lil wayne’s music. My hope is that the members of Zeta Phi Beta & Phi Beta Sigma will do the same.

A lot of y’all don’t seem to understand what a sorority is. Its an organization that you stay in until the day you die. You have to work hard to get into a sorority. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated is an African American sorority. They are a member of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), also known as the Divine Nine. For someone to dis something that you are a part of is just very disrespectful. All of you telling us to stop “bitching” as you all “kindly” put it, wouldn’t be saying that if lil wayne or someone else dissed something you all are a part of or represent, or love.

I’m pretty sure that Wayne was not specifically targeting your sorority, it just happened to rhyme, because we all know that ALL sorority girls are bitches, regardless of which organization they belong to. It really pisses me off when people automatically assume that everyone in sororities or fraternities behave in the same manner. As a member of Zeta Phi Beta, I am offended, just as I am offended when rappers call women in general bitches and hoes and have black women dancing around half dam naked. Its not a good look. And to address people who want to bash sororities, please do your research. Yes you are going to have people in them who act like idiots and power trip, but you will find that anywhere you go in life. That has to do with the individual character of the person who just so happens to be associated with an organization. We are a non hazing organization. Does hazing go on, yes but it is not somthing that we approve of and in addition to legal ramificattions, the organizations have penalties for these people as well. Once again I point to the character of the person that needs to be separated from the Org. because that it not what we represent. Partying is associated alot with our organizations but HELLO PEOPLE! When do most people join? While they are in undergrad. What do most undergrads do? THEY PARTY! and they would party and act a fool whether they were in an organization or not. SO what is really the problem? The Organization or the people themselves?

People need to also realize work of sororities and fraternities dont stop at the uundegraduate level. THERE ARE GRADUATE CHAPTERS! I came in through a Grad. chapter and NO ONE BEAT ME, HIT ME, OR MADE ME FEEL LESS THAN A PERSON. They put my ass to work, doing fundraisers, and dozens of community service projects and thas how my process went.
Putting everyone in a category who is a part of a Black Greek Letter Organization is the same as saying everyone who is black is a criminal, on welare, and lazy. You can’t define my character becuase i’m black based on the actions of other who share the same race as me……Just like you can’t judge my character becuase i am apart of an organization.

And just to add to this little debate….how can you guys who are pro lil wayne, really support an artist who has admittedly used coke, horse tranqulizers, and every other drug under the dam sun. It amazes me how people put him on a pedastal and call him great when he is the epitome of what not to be like. On drugs, and sleeping with multiple partners, getting women pregnant at the same time? I understand separating the artist from his work, but how can you respect his work when clearly life is imitating art, but not in a good way.
Imagine having an amazing teacher and then you find out he does coke everyday. It doesnt take away from his knowledge in the subject, but can you really take that person seriously or have respect for him/her?

I personally like Lil Wayne. I’m not sure exactly why or what it is but I know that I do enjoy most of his music. Even though he is one of my favorite rappers, I was very surprised and a little upset with the fact that he called the Sweet Ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. some bitches. The thing that upset me a little more is that I was reading the different post on here; I realized that as the Zetas were defending their sorority, people were being ignorant and not seeing it from their side. And then, what upset me even more than that was that most of these people know nothing about the Divine Nine, its heritage or history. If they did, then they would never have compared the PHC with the NPHC, they are extremely different. I am not in a Divine 9 fraternity but hopefully one day I will be and I feel like when you attack one, then to a certain extent you attack them all. Besides, my father is Greek and I care for him and his fraternity a lot. I attend Lincoln University of Missouri and on our campus we have the Royal Court. The Royal Court is composed of Kings and Queens on campus. You have the top King and Queen, Mr. and Miss. Lincoln University, then you have your class Kings and Queens (Mr. and Miss. Freshman through Senior), and your greek Kings and Queens (which represent the Divine 9). Every Sorority must be represented by a King and every Fraternity must be represented by a Queen. I am a King on the Royal Court, Mr. Crimson and Cream, and I represent the Devastating Divas of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; the Alpha Theta Chapter. Even though I directly represent the Deltas I feel that I indirectly represent all the sororities on my campus and I know that they worked hard to get where they are. So my words are not for Lil Wayne because what he says will come and go and it means nothing. My words are for those out there that ignorantly fell right in line with him and sat on here and made false generalizations about all members of Greek Lettered Organizations. Amongst the Divine 9 you have Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Delta Sigma Theta, Phi Beta Sigma, Zeta Phi Beta, Sigma Gamma Rho and Iota Phi Theta. considering most chapters of the divine nine “organizations” haze, i don’t think people view you as “scholars,” “model citizens,” or “leaders.” anyone who allows themselves to get hazed, or looks on as others in their organizations are hazed, is a “bitch” in the colloquial sense–a follower, if you will. these organizations claim to “uplift” their communities, but really look down on others who aren’t members. it’s elitism at is best. so, why are you mad that lil wayne isn’t “uplifting” women? you don’t uplift women by hazing or the separatism you underhandedly promote amongst your divine nine “organizations” or other black women.

I would like to say that I am a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. cross Spring ’09 Rho Gamma Chapter. I am also a Lil Wayne fan. First off I would like to say that Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. is a very great Organization and the bond we share is like no other. When I first heard the lyric it did catch me off guard, but I knew Lil Wayne didn’t mean any disrespect. When he said “bitch” he was calling whoever he was dissing a bitch in the sense of a coward or a punk. But when he said “like Zeta Phi Beta” he meant it as a female. The fans of his music will understand this and they see Lil Wayne as giving the Zetas a shout out not as a disrespecting them. But since the Zetas are such a prestige organization their name shouldn’t have been used in this since anyhow and that is why their upset. Is it enough to make me boycott his music? Probably not. The best solution is to just move on and quit arguing about it because we won’t get anywhere doing that. I’m sure Lil Wayne has already moved on. For all those people out there who doesn’t know about NPHC greeks here are some statics, there are over 1.5 million NPHC Greeks and over 75% of Black Lawyers, Doctors, and Dentist are a member of NPHC. Obviously we are doing something right. Not to mention famous Sigmas include George Washington Carver, Huey P. Newton, Rick James, Emmit Smith, Jerry Rice, Hines Ward, Wiillis Reed, Karl Malone, Blair Underwood, Bill Clinton, Martin Lawrence, Morgan Freeman,Quincy Jones, and Bobby Jones.

I know im rather late entering into this debate but i am astounded that this is even a debate. Any human with morals and some sense of intelligence can see that Lil wayne is a complete idiot.
