Two weeks after his arrest in Las Vegas for allegedly carrying cocaine, current Billboard Hot 100 chart topper Bruno Mars (real name: Peter Hernandez) was officially charged with felony drug possession on Friday, October 1.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal points out that, if this is the “Just The Way You Are” crooner’s first offense of this nature, he’ll probably get a year of probation for having a controlled substance in his possession. However, if he’s been busted before on similar charges, he could face up to four years behind bars.

Bruno was nabbed in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino restroom by hotel security after performing at the venue on September 18. He’s been accused of having 2.6 grams of cocaine in his possession at the time of the arrest.

“Just The Way You Are,” Mars’ first solo single after appearing on hits by Travie McCoy (“Billionaire”) and B.o.B (“Nothin’ On You”), has been the #1 single in the country for two weeks. His debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans will be released tomorrow.

Way to dampen what should be a celebratory week!
