Swizz Beatz Follows Kanye’s Lead, Premieres Monster Mondays Series

Kanye West’s oh-so generous move to gift the world free music every week has evidently inspired his frequent G.O.O.D. Friday collaborator Swizz Beatz to follow suit. Today, Alicia Keys’ hubby has kicked off his own weekly series of new music (with free downloads!) called Monster Mondays. You can check out the premiere track “DJ Play The Beat”, featuring the lovely Estelle, by heading over to Swizz’s new site Basquiat Music or by jumping below.

Estelle – DJ Play The Beat”] We dig Swizz’s fidgety beat and the appearance of Estelle on any song is fine by us, but it does seem a bit unpolished. How much good is a good mp3 for fans if it’s an unfinished, unmastered version? That’s the question. We have to admit, Monster Mondays sounds like a weekly theme night at a dive bar. We understand the desire for alliteration, but we think Swizz could have come up with a more clever title for his series. (G.O.O.D. Friday was a nod to Kanye’s production company as well as the religious holiday, and best of all, it didn’t sound like it was promoting two-for-one margaritas between the hours of 4 and 7 p.m.) This whole series of free mp3s could seem like a copycat move, but it’s Kanye-approved, and Swizz is more than willing to give credit where its due, tweeting, “I took a page out my brother @ kanyewest book :)” We’re expecting Yeezy to return the favor and drop in on one or two of Swizz’s new tracks for a guest verse.
